Accelerator (gas) pedal

Hello yall. I am wondering if anyone has a solition for a replacement accelerator pedal? Mine seems cracked near the bottom and I’m not sure if anyone has found maybe a ford reproduction one that can work (some look similar at first glance?) or if anyone has a good used unit. Thanks!

You're in the South. Try Dennis Carpenter. That gas pedal has got to be a Ford thing. He makes them, and it is worth the trip to his factory to have a tour. When I was there, there was a fellow operating a machine and he said he was making stern wills. I'm from Maine and the language gap was wide. I have a son in law who is a lobsterman, and even I know what a stern is. But I didn't know what a stern will was and made a note to ask John Quincy when I got back. But out of the other side of the machine, steering wheels were coming out! Live and learn! Wayne

The Lincoln pedal is unlike anything I have seen in full size cars or trucks, but Mustang and T Bird use a similar boot underneath, so may be similar. If you can't find a repop, I have some useable 60 year old originals, but the tread ribs will be lifting.

Okay, so update. I pulled the pedal after work to examine a bit closer, had an old ford number on the back.

The number really does not have an exact match according to old google, but a very similar model comes up - for a few years of the fairline and the t-bird. Although that unit doesn’t seem to have the two studs that mount the linkage in the back (like mine does).

I called the people at Dennis carpenter but to no avail, the nice customer service yep that answered explained that they don’t have a listing for any Lincoln stuff and although similar they can’t recommend for a customer to try due to liability (if one gets a stuck throttle and crashes into the front of a strip mall) so no luck there.

May have to end up just fabricating one myself ?

I say stick liability where the sun doesn't shine. If you think those parts from D Carpenter will fit, get 'em and put 'em on. I can't imagine that they cost that much. And you can always sell them to some Ford group that will use them to replace the bare foot pedals that once seemed so popular...or try Dan's link, who knows? Wayne

Why not buy good used from a parts car? Bound to be many out there available. Polish up the frame and replace the ribbing to make it like new.

It’s not so much the ribbing but the way they molded the vulkinzed rubber at the base around the hinge area. Mines all cracked and I would think any 55+ year old parts car would likely be the same? But maybe not. I was probably going to try one of those ford repo ones but I’ll have to make some type of modification to the linkage mounting as I haven’t found one with little machine screw studs sticking out the back. The re-pop ones are real cheap so if it dosent work out I’m only out like $20 bucks

Update - I found somthing that looks mighty close (at least the mounting bits look close) listed for a 1970 and up ford “L” series (truck?) so I ordered and hopefully can make that work. It has the same mounting and same two machine studs sticking out the back. I’ll update adding when it arrives and I match to the orig unit-

Interesting. The L series (Louisville) trucks were Fords newest highway haulers at that time, the high cab, compared to the engine, makes sense for an underside pivot linkage like that. It also makes sense to re-use that part when designing it. I hope you will post pictures of both, when you receive it.

I sure will! Possibly Wednesday or Thursday for new pedal delievery. The pedal for the thunderbird that Dan suggested is probably the closest match to the original, the main difference being the way the linkage mounts on the backside.

Parts cars are disappearing and being scrapped. They might be out there in the south and out west, but not in rust-belt states anymore.

Of all the Lincoln specialists out there, there must be one somewhere.

I have at least four old ones, but the treads (ribs) are tatty looking, if the OP has found something that looks decent and works, that would be great for all the fussy people out there. Louisville trucks were built until '98, so their parts may be easier to find.
