Re: 2004 Lincoln Mark X prototype to be auctioned
I noticed that seems to be a regular M.O. for Chrysler, to take a model or trim option and make it a division.

Ya those things love to eat that heater control valve on the core support!LithiumCobalt wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:01 pm I had the 3.9L V8 in my ‘02 LS. I thought it was fantastic. Although, with 100k+ already on it the engine defects were already addressed by the time I got it. I’ve heard the stories. Had nothing but trouble with the HVAC system on it. Otherwise it was a joy to drive.
That car was one of the best driving sedans of that generation. There are a few out there that have been built as crazy pro touring cars that are really cool. It's a crazy $$$$ investment in something that's worth $2,500...

Not really; because they did it three times to my knowledge (though more than once from the same corporation would suggest a pattern): 1–Imperial; 2–Eagle; 3–Ram.
(Sorry, all, not meaning to stretch the hijack, but I did need to explain myself. Now, back to our regularly-scheduled program already in progress...)

Re: 2004 Lincoln Mark X prototype to be auctioned
Eagle was a carry over it doesn't count. They used it as a joint division with Jeep because they needed vehicles for former AMC dealers to sell. Doing it twice in 84 years isn't that regular if it was done consistently then there's a pattern to it.TonyC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 5:48 pmNot really; because they did it three times to my knowledge (though more than once from the same corporation would suggest a pattern): 1–Imperial; 2–Eagle; 3–Ram.

Never knew Eagle was a division of AMC...
Wasn't the Eagle Talon a Mitsubishi? I remember my sister having one and for some reason I seem to remember a Mitsubishi sticker on the firewall... I could be wrong about all of that though...

Re: 2004 Lincoln Mark X prototype to be auctioned
Here's a hijack, my turn...my wife had a 1989 Mercury Tracer which was really a Mazda 323, and it had Japanese writing on many of the parts to prove it. I think she bought it after the Escort gave up the head. Escort heads were a dime a dozen and easy to replace, so I did it, and sold the whole thing to a friend's son for a hundred bucks. We bought the Escort new in 1984 because we were moving from Ma. to Me. and we needed something that would make the trip. Wayne

Chevy, wouldn't you really rather drive an Eagle? This is insane.

Re: 2004 Lincoln Mark X prototype to be auctioned
Eagle wasn't a division of AMC, it was an AMC model. When Chrysler acquired AMC in 1987 they created the Eagle brand initially for AMC and Renault models being sold or in the pipeline, and other models later on.
Yes, the Eagle Talon was based on the Mitsubishi Eclipse.1Bad55Chevy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 7:25 pm Wasn't the Eagle Talon a Mitsubishi? I remember my sister having one and for some reason I seem to remember a Mitsubishi sticker on the firewall... I could be wrong about all of that though...

Re: 2004 Lincoln Mark X prototype to be auctioned
All of this brand switching and brand changing, and brand disappearing is confusing. I woke up this morning thinking that Ford had discontinued Lincoln, because I could not think of any new name that Lincoln would be using. I couldn't even think of the name of that big SUV that they made 20 years ago. I think I'd like to have one of those if it wasn't rusty. Lincoln stopped the alphabet soup stuff a while back, didn't they? Wayne
