From what I can tell, these oils are rated ONLY for Diesel engines (CK-4), and doesn't have a gasoline engine rating like SM, SP, etc. That would concern me. Usually diesel oils are dual rated, but that may no longer be the case.

I use Castrol 10w-30w and add I think it is 9 oz. bottle of Risolone with ZDDP/. I think Walmart is a dollar or 2 cheaper.

I've been known to use Walmart (Somebody has to make it, and it isn't the recycled stuff I used in High School, lo these many years ago) brand oil in everything but my 63. In that I use a 10-40 that I get at NAPA. Wayne

I use diesel oil in anything with flat tappets, but your '84 could be roller, I don't know.

I thought the only reason they're rated for diesel only is they they still have the good additives in them that have been removed from regular motor oil.

Well, maybe. But some diesel oils, like Delvac, still meet both the highest CK-4 and SP diesel and gas ratings.

Re: Anybody running Rotella T4 oil?
I think the issue is the later ratings like SP limit the additives like zinc so not meeting those gas ratings is actually a good thing since it's that reduction of zinc that has been linked to cam and lifter wear.

Re: Anybody running Rotella T4 oil?
I have always thought of 302 as flat, and 5.0 as roller, but I'm not sure if that was the case, or just a generalization. Weather you use Diesel oil, or an additive is just a choice, if you don't like one, try something else next time, I just like the convenience of one product, and top ups are easier.
