Two eras of Lincolns

If it is Lincoln-related and doesn't seem to fall in the other categories or you just can't figure out where to put it, put it here!

Two eras of Lincolns

Post by rick »

When I picked up my Lincoln at the shop this morning they had my '61 parked beside this one. I believe it's a '60 but could be wrong.

Rick, until recently, I also owned a '58. When you put those cars side by side, it's hard to believe that they came from the same company. I loved that car, but there was never any doubt in my mind that my 62 was a much better car in almost* every way.

Cool!

I think its a 59 judging by the plate.. Unless they were on another car before.. seriously. That's why I don't like dishing out for plates with years on them 😐

Do you guys remember Ed Big Daddy Roth? He was the cartoonist who did those decals and drawings of the Rat Fink etc. Well that old Lincoln has an Ed Big Daddy decal right on the middle of the back edge of the trunk

Definitely a '59; and definitely not a Continental model, either Premiere or Capri. There should be another plate somewhere there ID-ing model; look for either of those names. I must say, that is quite a find, as most survivors of that series are Continentals.

Well, it turns out to be a Capri. That was the base model in 59. There are pictures and a description online from when it was at a Merrickville, ON car show.

Very impressive! This reminds me of when I saw a base '60 Lincoln in El Paso, which would have also been named "Capri" had that name survived. '59 was the last year Lincoln used the name. I never got really up close and personal with its owner, as I was on the verge of vacating El Paso and dealing with some crises of Frankenstein's at that time.

Yeah, yeah, I know, when have I not been dealing with crises of Frankenstein's...??

How times change. The Capri was the most upscale Lincoln one could buy in '52, when they started using the name.
