Re: TLF to shut down in September unless...

Post by TonyC »

Facebook groups are only entertaining when I can answer questions that have already been answered here...and then, only if the Conformity Standards gestapo hasn't gagged me, which is a regular occurrence there. Otherwise, those groups are mostly boring, populated by clueless newbies that don't have enough research skills to check this Forum to find the answers to their questions, 98% of which have been answered here...to say nothing about those repulsive jumper-like mods they do to those cars.

Being a holder of the status "TLF'er For Life," it is all but an obligation for me to offer what $$ support I can to save the Forum. This week I have other things tying me up, namely that road trip to Seguin to (finally!!) get replacement torsion bars for the trunk. But when I recover from that trip, I'd like to know how to help out.

Dan, there used to be a photo library and I don't see it now. Am I just looking in the wrong place? Someone on an FB page was looking for a photo and I told him to join and find it here. I should have made sure I could find it myself first! Thanks.

The library isn’t migrated yet. And it may never be.

I've been on here for about 17 years. Where is the donation area?

I have to set it up.

It take a slot of time to put together proper links, etc. I’m juggling work, the house, the car, the wife, and the parents (now 82 and 86).

That's bad news about the photo library. Also, "TLF to shut down in September unless..." and "The LincolnForum.net is back until August 2023" conflict with each other. Which is it? Thanks.

Dan, Wonderful job you have done with the forum over the years.
As I have aged and sold my Lincolns, I will not be using it much in the future.
However I do have a lot of spare parts left over from my restorations.
I will list them soon and donate half of the proceeds to the forum to hopefully
have it continue on for younger folk.

I love seeing the love that vets give the Forum even though they may have no reason to follow it anymore. I do have to say, this is my biggest resource to diagnose issues beyond shop-manual guidance, and help some newbies who don't yet realize how in over their heads they are with their new acquisitions. The latter feels good when I or someone else can help steer them to solving their mysteries before they get gray hair prematurely.

I will keep eyes on things Bob puts up for sale; maybe some things I might need myself and can't get in a more practical alternate way. That's one thing that sucks about Kansas: Not one graveyard has any of these cars. That's why I'm now in Seguin, TX, getting torsion bars for the trunk lid, and maybe a few other things if possible. But, with the climate and weather conditions, plus how long these cars have sat in said conditions, some things will be impossible to get in usable shape: Relays for one; front-seat cushion springs for another.

I’m bringing down the forum Saturday morning, August 20 for the weekend to run tests and possibly reinstall it to the August 15 backup.

Old threads are not accessible. Something horrible went wrong. I have to fix it. Please visit the home page for updates. It could be down a while.

I'm able to see old posts and search.
Thought I'd mention that.

Good luck on the latest project, Dan. And thanks for the tip.

I found the settings that I screwed up on my side that prevented me from seeing any post over a month old.

The forum will be up most of the weekend.

Today is Woodward Cruise in Michigan. I will not be there.

We know the time and energy that Dan puts in to keep the Forum alive. I also have seen the idea from Dan that he needs to set up a way for people to contribute/donate to give funds for time and Forum bills. Is there just an easier way like us all just buying Lincoln Manuals again. Isn't that bill/pay system operating? I will try and buy a manual again. I bought it once and have never downloaded or even tried to look at it. I did this only because I knew it was a way to contribute. I will now try and do it again, if it works, maybe other can follow.
