Stainless Steel Lincoln

Any Lincoln fact related question can be posted here. Questions such as how many Contintenal convertibles were produced in MY1965? How much was the Town Car option in 1969? What size of tire was standard on a 1953 Premiere? or Does the Mark II retractible prototype still exist?

Looks like they will be at Auburn this fall. Only about thirty miles from my house. Will definitely go watch the auction in person.

not ever having to worry about corrosion would be really really nice. I'd drive it in the rain all the time

I wish I was that rich collector. They deserve to be together as the set of 3. They look great side by side.

Only the body panels are SS. The underbody is all still mild steel.

But no paint to fade!

Maybe Ford will get them for the Henry Ford, or some nice person could get them for the Lincoln Foundation. Either way would be grand. Wayne

Saw them at the Case Western Museum in Cleveland eons ago. Would be neat to have. I'd start the bidding at $50,000.

It'll be a waste if they auction them online. They'd be a draw in a live auction -- I'd certainly go just to see them up close. Hopefully the restrictions will be lifted by then.

I merged the two Stainless Lincoln threads as I realized they have the same info and this is the logical conclusion to the first post.

And for anyone who gives a shit, here's the pics I took in 2005 of the three cars likely being auctioned in 2020.

Note the cowl cover. Since it is cast pot metal, it couldn't be made from stainless without much difficulty. Instead, they chrome plated it.

Convertible interior is interesting. Looks like 66 door panels, dash and cruise, but 67 tilt column, steering wheel and seats. Looks like Frankenstein slab existed even before Tony’s car.

It’s a bastardized 66. Always was. They upgraded what they could to make look like a 67. The giveaway is the star on the fender. You can’t easily fill holes in stainless steel. So, they didn’t.

That makes sense...they wouldn't look all that great with Bondo slathered all over them. Maybe someday someone will make a paint that actually looks like stainless steel. Chrome paint would be nice, too. Wayne

Take pics and report back, for sure!

I was obsessed with the 66 Lincolns for a short time when I learned of their existence.
