40 day, 40 night challenge(63 Vert)

Post by c0v3rr1d3 »

So its only been 8 years since i started on the 63 Vert. Rust and Body work = 0 motivation along with life and everything else that goes with it.
Most of the floors and quarters were done a few years ago as seen here...http://www.thelincolnforum.net/phpbb3/v ... 38&t=29921

Now with my upcoming marriage in october, i've gotten one last jolt of motivation after giving up on the idea of having it ready earlier this year. Car is stripped, blasted, all new doors to replace the rotted out vert ones, new trunk lid from a long time ago. And a list of 22 must have items to make the car picture worthy and reliabile for October 9th.

This thread will hopefully keep me motivated enough to make sure at least have some sort of progress accomplished every day. If painted by Sept 17th i might just have a chance.

  • Install inline electric fuel pump to help combat vapor lock, even though had the original 3 port rebuilt back in 09. - Done

    Electrical
  • Wire up Dash to Car - Done
  • Troubleshoot no start, probably something with dash wiring - Done
  • Wire up switches for EFP, top lock/unlock and deck lock/unlock for manual use. - To Be Done
A lot more stuff that is "nice to have" or has to do with the top working but isn't absolutely necessary for the wedding. Could always raise the roof manually if I had too.

Wish me luck!!!

Better get the car done because once you are married, your life is over.

It is said a man is not complete until he is married. Then, he is finished.

Thanks Guys!

Night 2
Some shaddy body work was done previous to the front drivers side of this car, unfoutuantly time does not permit a correct repair so have to mud it ( i know its not the best but its never gonna be sold or a show car) Also start some skim coating over the replacement passenger rear quarter but ran out of time and 36 grit to finish smoothing it out.
Also stripped down the replacement sedan dash i got out of PA back in 2009. Dash pad is off for cleaning and dying, and instrumentation is out for reconditioning.

Night 3

More mudding, i don't think there is a piece of original sheetmetal left on this car. Wish i had the time to replace the front drivers fender, but this will do for now. Almost there, one more coat and it should be smooth and straight, same with the front half above the grill. Another rear door ready to go, and some more tweaking on the dog leg of the passenger rear quarter to do. Took apart all the gauges from the dash to prep them for cleaning and polishing.

Night 4

Body work continues on, getting closer though!!! Restored the 3 gauge bezels back to shinny chrome, still has some small pits but its a lot better than how it looked. Started tear down of lower dash sections to restore and the backing of the gauges. Will be putting on a set of new medium oak inserts from Alex.

Day/Night 5 & 6
Body work continues, same with dash stripping and converted both rear sedan doors for use on the convertible. Stripped out all components of old vert front and rear doors that i hadn't gotten to in years past as well. On a plus the drivers window motor is working so don't have to rebuild that one!! Cut out knife switch just for future proofing, won't be getting that working right now.

I need to get my ass moving. Maybe I'll pull my motor and get it back in this winter in 40 days and try to match your challenge.
