Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
There is a little ball of mercury sealed in a smaller tube built into the long round part of the socket, when the trunk lid is raised the ball of mercury rolls over the contacts completing the circuit... Kind of a cool method.

Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
Thanks Rob!, that's what I needed to see. I'll get on it this week, spent my holiday week of putting in the front splash guards in the front of the inner fenders and the vacum tank.
Also got the grill installed and workign on the headlight subassemblies, need to make sure I have all the little screws, etc, found new headlights at Autozone today, so with a little luck by this time next week, the trunk and the nose of the car will be complete
While trolling around the Autozone site, I found these:
Wondering if anyone has used these for a 460 engine in a 68LC?

Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
Happy Holidays to everyone, my Christmas vacation has arrived and I am done my shopping and Christmas prep
Its been cold as a witch'es tit this weekend, but things are progressing, headlights are in , grille is in, very last piece of trunk trim is on now, working on getting the bumper next.
I need some odds and ends guidance, perhaps some pics, my inlaws are coming to the house for Christmas day, this will be first time the original owner, my father-in-law will see the car since before it was painted
1. a pic of the small door covering the gas cap, specifically, open, I seem to be missing some sort of rubber spacers that keep the little door even with the body line
2. a pic of the door splash guards- the part where the "fisher body" is and where the windlace meets it
3. a pic of where the windshield washer hose goes I guess into the firewall somewhere
4. a pic or a shape of what i think is a piece of weatherstripping under the cowl in the front
Going to get as much hung on the car as I can, nothing like a deadline to get things moving....did i mention its frickin freezing !!!
Thank you fellow 68 Lincoln owners

Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
I am 1,000 miles away from my car so I can't get you any photos (but I can come to my favorite web forum!)
There are two small cone-shaped rubber bumpers on the trailing edge of the fuel door. If your door isn't flush, those are not there. There should be two holes at the upper and lower rear corners of the opening. edit: The bumpers are mounted on the body - not the door... I didn't word this very well.
I can relate to frackin' freezing. It is 14 here right now. And I had to drive through the worst part of the blizzard that hit the East coast and Jersey to get here (REALLY bad timing on my part...) Stay warm and enjoy your Christmas!

Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
4 days of my Christmas vacation was spent in the garage, actually got two "nice" days, got some good stuff done in advance of the inlaws visit, who haven't seen the car in over year
- trunk light -done
- rear door open warning light - done
- front seats and power seat motor - done
- grill - done
- headlights/high beams - done
- underdash wiring covers - done
- door scuff guards and trim - done
I am looking for some individual parts for a 68 LC
- latch assembly and small bracket that attaches to the hood for the hood release
- driver side c pillar "star"
- driver side top molding for the windshield
- little rubber bumpers for the door covering the gas cap
- Rearview mirror
Before I go to Baker's (due to the quality of the windshield from linconland, I am shopping elsewhere) I wanted to ask the folks here.
Next step is to finish the pesky windows, I have discovered that I am loosing too many volts/amp across worn out switches
Much thanks to a very understanding wife, hope everyone had a great holiday

Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
Howdy!
Funny you should ask....after a busy non-car 6 mos, I am back at it, cleaning up parts, you will start to see more posts from me now, I started last week and been working for a a couple hours in the evening and weekends, the parts cleaner/tumbler has been going for 5 days straight now
I have alot of very shiny nuts and bolts now....
working on the brake system as I needed a break(oops... pun-alert) from electrical so I can see new things hung on the car, how is yours? You wouldn't happen to have any small misc parts in a box somewhere...eheheheh

Re: My Ongoing 1968 LC Project
OMG this project thread of mine is now 3 years old!....I have had the car 10!
I have had fun with it, but I could have built 5 Nova's by now
Well, me and my two now teenage sons are helping out and things are getting done a bit faster...late spring is actually possible to get to a running car
I said I wanted to be able to chaeuffer(sp?) my sophmore son to the senior prom in the Lincoln, he thought that would be cool...so...it's on!
1. some updated pics
2. More on the matter later, but now all front windows and front vents work from both sides switches
Well, more pics to come,
