Lincoln Addict Podcast **New Video Alert** Mother-load Collection Score

Post by bd94s10 »

Hello,

Checkout my latest score. I can't wait to dive into these older issues! Please see the note below about the '64 Johnson car and more intel I received about it AFTER I finished the video. The info came from a totally different post but I thought it would be good to include below.

Note: since I recorded and published this video someone commented on a post, via social media, about something different. He stated the car on the tarmac was Lyndon Johnson's but was a loaner and not his personal '64 that sold a year or so again.

It is frustrating to get these things wrong but here is where I got the info from: https://octopup.org/img/car/lincoln/inf ... ncolns.pdf

‘Continental Comments’ did a write-up on the subject for their July-Aug ‘99 issue where they provided further details about the car in a section titled “Nick Kralj's (Crawl-J’s) 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible. The LBJ Car.” They interviewed Jeff Snyder who did the restoration on the car.

“Continental Comments: How did Nick happen to acquire an LBJ Lincoln?
Snyder: This car is a very early 1964. We have magazine articles from one of the weekly magazines where this Lincoln is sitting on the tarmac where they are putting Kennedy's coffin into Air Force I after he was assassinated. So LBJ had this car before Kennedy was shot.”

Nick found out through a banker that this car was for sale. The LBJ Company owned the car and it was sold to an individual. That individual needed to sell it for whatever reason, and this banker friend of Nick's found out about it. That was in the late '70s or early '80s.”

Anytime I do find out better information I will always correct myself. At this time I'm not 100% sure which is correct. Rick Majores on Facebook stated "Lincoln Addict the one pictured is the one I’m speaking of that was used for the Dallas motorcade. It was a loaner from a downtown Dallas dealership along with some Mercury’s for lesser officials. Was driven by a Texas Highway Patrolman with a Secret Service agent in the front passenger seat. LBJ, Lady Bird, and US Senator Ralph Yarborough in the back seat. After the assassination the Johnson’s were snuck back to the airport in unmarked police vehicles. This Lincoln was used by Secret Service agents to escort the hearse with JFK’s body back to the airport. The Lincoln that you mentioned that was offered at auction was actually LBJ’s personal white 1964 convertible that he used while at home on his ranch in Texas."
