Vinyl Roof Repair or Replacement

Post by VFA4755 »

Hi, I just recently got my 75 Mark IV stored away for the winter, and just figured I'd start doing what I can over the winter, to have it ready to be painted sometime in the spring. Do they make some kind of filler or anything that can salvage the original vinyl roof? If not, what is the easiest way to take the trim off, and where should I start looking for a replacement vinyl roof? Thanks!

The problem with trying to save that, is rust, it has already started under the vinyl. If you're repainting the car, then now is the time to address the roof, you may not like what you find under there, but it will get worse if you leave it.

How would you even repair that without replacing it? I don't think that is possible...

Chevy, I can tell how young you are. You’ve obviously never heard of K-tel.

It's done. Replace it. I don't know if replacements are out there but it's easier to get an upholstery shop that does automotive to deal with it all. They can make one.The longer you wait the higher the risk of having serious rust under it.

I’ve seen Mark III’s without the Cavalry twill fabric top and I think the lines of the roof are quite handsome. Check out Rare Classic Cars on YouTube and you’ll see what I mean. I currently have a black over white ‘69 with a white leather interior and am seriously considering going with a white roof to make it a triple white, which is perfect for arizona. I’ll save the trim pieces so the next caretaker can go back to the original configuration.

When I peeled that mess off my 75 I discovered that, yes, I could poke my finger through the top in several places.
