Calling all 61 Owners, Vin # & production date question

Details such as correct colors, plating material, inspection marks, orientation, and even the number of wipes that should occur for a vacuum-powered windshield wiper system after pushing the "wash" button.

It would be interesting to know how many convertibles were produced in the first 376 cars?

Actually that car was the 10375th car built. The Vin's began at 400001

VIN 414510
Body 74A
Color M
Trim 85
Date 14C
Trans 4
Axle 7

This one is your typical Shriners' Special. Built on March 14, 1961. Sultana White w/ Red Leather, white top, wood trim, A/C. It has the weird 1" wide long strips of steel welded to the bottom of the rocker panels. I've seen these on other '61's.
A basketcase, but basically all there.

My car was built the same day as this one It too has red leather but is a hard top and is black.

I guess I misunderstood the numbering sequence.
It is interesting that my vin is the second lowest on your list, and it was close to the middle of the total cars produced in 1961. I took a look at the LCOC listing for all of its members with 61s, and although there are something like 100 cars listed, my number is still the lowest in the group. Statistically, if you pulled 140 vins randomly from a total production of around 28,000, you should get some significantly lower than mine.

Hmm!

Hi John I had a Dyslexic moment yesterday when initially entering your car. I put it in as 401... and it should be 410... Actually it is 13th highest vin of 38 on my list.
I wonder if most of the earlier production cars have not survived because most of my list is higher Vin's?
The reason I started this list is to try and find a very early production car. I'd like to find a car produced on a certain date in 1960 so the car would be exactly as old as I am.

No not yet. My car was built in April 1961 and I'm looking for November 1960.

For some vin numbers, you may want to contact John at http://www.lincolnvault.com . His email address is vin@lincolnvault.com .

He has just started a website to collect Lincoln vin numbers and information. He is also the person that started tbirdregistry.com .
The Tbird site is up and running and has all sorts of searchable data. The Lincoln site is in its test phase, but he is gathering vin numbers and basic car data and details.

Thanks for posting the link to the registry John. I don't recall hearing about it. We need to start spreading the word. Is he working with the LCOC on this?

Hi everyone this is John Rotella. I started the Thunderbird Registry in 2002 and it now has over 64,000 cars registered. Recently a total upgrade of the website was done that not only provides more search options but the site is also on a faster server.

A couple of months ago I opened http://www.lincolnvault.com to the public which operates much like the Thunderbird Registry except it has better search capabilities. Anyone can register their 1950-1980 Lincoln on the site. Names of owners are not made public in Lincoln Vault. I do plan to offer an owner's "key" which will unlock names of other owners in the future, but only when owners prove to me that they actually do own the car (with a copy of title or registration or insurance) For the time being however, Lincoln Vault is on a growth mission.

I have spent most of my 67 years chasing down FoMoCo products of all kinds. These registries are my contribution to the hobby.

You can also peruse http://www.tbird.info/registry that is the new link to the enhanced Thunderbird site.

I welcome your suggestions, comments, and participation.

Oh and I did actually own a 1961 Lincoln, many many years ago it was a Black Cherry Sedan, with pearl beige leather, and did not have air conditioning.

I don't know what happened to the data base, but if you're a member of LCOC you can access the vehicle list on the website. There are sixty seven "61s listed there. If not a member, you can join here: https://lcoc.org/join-lcoc/
