Temp control panel wont light up

Post by LawrenceJr03 »

1997 Lincoln Town Car/ Control panel for Heater and Air Conditioner went black. At first, it looked like the right side of the panel was illuminated. Yesterday I removed the dash panel. There are 5 small lites in the control panel. I pulled them all out and visually checked them. ( I did'nt do an Ohm Check. None appeared burnt. )When I put them back in, I used the car at night. Now that panel was completely dark. Any ideas ? If all five bulbs don't lite er up, do you have to replace the entire panel ? Any help appreciated.

Wondering if the bulbs are in series. If one is out they all go out. Is there a printed circuit where they plug in? Try replacing them all.

Most if not all illumination is wired in parallel.

Are these incandescent bulbs or something else?
Or post pictures.

Is the HVAC an electronic system or manual system?
Or does it look like the picture?

Looks exactly like picture. Control panel splits in half, bulbs are mounted in plastic holders, placed in a solid state circuit board.

I am assuming there are no other instrument panel illumination issues

I have attached a wiring diagram for the HVAC control I found on the net.
(I have no shop manual or wiring diagram. You should. And I have never owned a Town Car)
Make sure there is power to the light blue/red wire from the vehicle when the headlights are turned on.
- If no power in that wire you have wiring issues that need to be addressed first.

Since you have access to the bulbs do test with an ohm meter.

Post pictures of the bulbs. I am not sure these are incandesent.
