Mark IV driver side arm rest
I’ve been looking for a Mark for sometime now and found a nice ‘72 but the plastic driver-side armrest is cracked. I’ve seen this before so I suspect it’s a common problem. How hard is it to find one in matching dark blue? Do you have to buy what you can find and paint it? Any possible sources come to mind? Thanks for your help,
Peter

Re: Mark IV driver side arm rest
Most 50 year old cars are difficult to find trim parts that are new.
Used will be the most common way to correct the issue.
Expect to pay a premium for the better condition
Depending on the damage there are some vendors that can repair damage to vinyl.

Re: Mark IV driver side arm rest
Mark II Enterprises may have them. They reproduced the 66-67 variant and I thought I saw them available for Mark IV's as well. You will have to confirm. Unless you want a used one which is probably in just of poor of shape as the one on the car. New is the way to go, but with that comes the obligation to paint it. A word of caution if you do get them from Mark II, scrutinize the hell out of them to make sure they are the correct dimensions and not damaged.

Re: Mark IV driver side arm rest
If I'm not mistaken, that part was not only used on the Mark IV, but was also used on the Ford Thunderbird of the same period. Again, if memory serves me, (at my age sometimes it doesn't) that part was used up till the 79 model year for both the Mark and Thunderbird. The fact that the part was used on two carlines might expand the search for you. If you do find one in good condition, which I think is going to be hard, you no doubt have to paint it.

Right, I too was thinking about the Thunderbird. Plus, those cars were in production for 5 years, and a lot of Mark IVs were built in those 5 years. Sure, there were detail changes year by year; but except for possibly any special-trim versions, the arm rests should be the same in all those years.

72 to 76 Mark IV/Thunderbird arm rests - With or without pad (Not sure 77 to 79 will work because that is the next gen Mark & Bird)
Ebay has 3 arm rests listed right now. All are a brown color.
To driver's side and one passenger side
There at least a dozen arm rest pads listed. Included in the color of blue
Then there is this listing

Which is a next gen arm rest

Re: Mark IV driver side arm rest
I do stand corrected. The 1976 Thunderbird was the last year that had the same type of armrests. Sorry for the mis-information.action wrote:72 to 76 Mark IV/Thunderbird arm rests - With or without pad (Not sure 77 to 79 will work because that is the next gen Mark & Bird)

Re: Mark IV driver side arm rest
I've successfully repaired both sides of a 1976 Mark IV with two part Araldite. A little reinforcing around the cracked areas helps a great deal.

Araldite? Epoxy? I’ll look into it.
