Can I dye or refinish a 1948 canvas top?

Anything that pertains only to a convertible goes here. Such as: Top material, pads, mechanism, hydraulic pumps, switch and relay mechanisms, latches, etc.

Can I dye or refinish a 1948 canvas top?

Post by mbrewer11111 »

Has anyone tried to refinish or dye a 1948 canvass convertible top? The canvas looks in pretty good shape, but looks weathered and faded. It is currently a light grey.

Dyeing a top can be done, but I would be apprehensive about doing it. You must have the top very clean or the dye will be blotchy.

Have you used a good top cleaner like Raggtop and a small amount of bleach to clean the top?

Mark, you are welcome. Let us know the outcome, if you decide to just try the bleach or go with a dye job.
