Authenticity Errors
The manual is chock full of errors.
This thread is to list them and address them one by one.
I'll start:
The 66 gas cap is likely not vented as stated by the manual. MPC contradicts this (no PN for a non-vented cap). People with low mileage 66s have caps that look like crap (not replaced) and are vented.

Both of my 67s had original fan shrouds that were brown in color, not black, when stripped down to the bare material.

Of the '67 shop manual?
The '66 shop manual is arranged in Groups, Parts and Pages.
For the cooling system Group there is no mention of the shroud. Not even in the specification Part. However it does list ONE radiator engineering number AND the part number in the specifications. Of which in Part 11-3 for readiator description it states there are two radiators. Standard cooling and extra cooling. An extra cooling radiator comes with all Lincolns with AC. I gues there wasn't many '66 Lincolns with ot AC.

Also on page 19: “The mirror within swivels in all directions controlled by a chrome plated elongated in 1966 and 1967 and round in 1968 and 1969 “joystick”.....”
I think they forgot to word “baton” between elongated and in.

Page 43: Engine color
Lots of debate and different information sources point to the color changing slightly with the debut of the 460. 462s don’t appear to have used Ford corporate blue. It was a lighter shade identified by a different name depending on which information source is consulted. Plenty of commentary on the Mustang authenticity boards.

Where is this mysterious rear mount? As far as I know there are two engine mounts and two transmission mounts. Never seen a single rear engine mount.

Have never seen these brackets on any car. The stainless lines I have seen run directly from the pump to carb with no accompanying brackets or supports.

There is no rear mount. There are two tranny mounts considered rear mounts.LithiumCobalt wrote:Page 48: Engine Mounts - “A three (3) point mounting system is used with the 462 engine. There are two (2) front and one (1) rear mount.”

I never saw that one before.

Saw no indication of staples through the metal valve cove gaskets on either of my 67s.
The staples are original-style, but leaky valve covers are almost a certainly and only the lowest mileage originals will still have them.
If you look at the valve cover, you will see the tabs where the staples go. Some gaskets don't have the corresponding tabs that extend under the valve cover tabs for the staples.
They should be flat staples.

Re: Authenticity Errors
Ah OK, that explains it. I was looking for actual holes through the valve covers, but the mounting tabs make perfect sense. Thanks for the schooling.Dan Szwarc wrote:I have.LithiumCobalt wrote:Page 45: Valve cover gasket - “The original 462 silver colored gaskets are stapled to the valve covers....”
