1986 Town Car Calipers

Post by TMaria »

Need new calipers. O'Reillys - Phenolic piston $21.00 lifetime warranty plus $5.00 core charge. Steel $26.00 lifetime warranty no core charge. Price difference is not the issue. Anyone have any experience with either? The shop manual indicates Phenolic piston.

Thanks for any assistance

Phenolic Pistons don't rust.

Phenolic piston are most times one use. Next pad change, if you compress them for the new pads, they will likely stick and not retract as they should. I know this because I had them on an 85 TC. I do steel when given the choice because of this. I also do this for a living, so I get to see many examples.

Thanks both Dans,

From the info by Dan B I will go with the steel.

P.S I used to live in Ferndale MI just north of Detroit, now living in Beverly Hills MI 5 miles north of Detroit. Still a long way from the other two.

My PT CRuiser had a broken phenolic piston for no reason I could find.

I'd go with steel, too.
