"Once only trailered, it suffered fender damage when backing off once....and ever since, its traveled to meets under its own power."

Yes, the only time they trailered it was to the Michigan meet last year, and got damaged when they pulled it out of the truck. I was surprised Harvey didn't drive it (since they drive it everywhere) and he said that since he doesn't have air conditioning, he wasn't driving from West Virginia to Michigan in the summer! He did drive it to Salado and I think Ocala. I've seen them at many shows, and you're right, Jimmy, they are super people. And well deserving of Best of Show.

Guys,

The Banes are grat people and represent the best of the LCOC. I got to drive the car on the tour at Pontiac last year and it runs as good as it looks. It's a delight to give a "Best of Show" to someone who drives a really difficult to maintain, 50+ year old car to many shows, always is a positive presence and in general makes it a delight to show our appreciation of both his (and her) efforts and personalities.

It was good to see Dan, Stu, Doug and everyone at Chattanooga. Hope you can make it to Minnesota!

First: Suck it up and go. It's worth it. It's a vacation so treat it like one. Drive with someone who isn't bringing a car to split the cost of the gas and the hotel. Stop making excuses not to go and start to make excuses why you ARE going!

Second: If you drive your car a lot around town and put several hundred to a few thousand every year, then your car will handle the trip. If something happens, it will happen. Again, suck it up and go.

Third: My 66 was quieter with the top down than with it up. That is, with the windows down instead of up since my car is from Alberta, Canada and doesn't have air. I guess there are a few more edges to make noise.

Fourth: We checked the radar and ended up with no driving in the rain at all for the entire 6 days. It rained once while we were there, but a simple wipe-up and it didn't matter. If anything, it helped me clean the car better because I didn't wash the whole thing at the washing station.

Fifth: Even my lowly 66 with its crazed chrome, dimpled body, scratched paint, misaligned windows, and high mileage interior took a first place in the Touring/Original class. There is nothing like receiving a plaque for showing a car and one's efforts just to BE there.

Sixth: We had a great time. People in this club go through a lot of effort to host a meet and so many members do not go for one reason or another. Plan ahead and make it a point to go to a meet in the future. It is the reason we have a club. The cars are beautiful and the people are social and fun to be with.

Seventh: I had never driven my Lincoln more than a few dozen miles at a time around town. Two years ago I had a new exhaust system put on the car. I elected to have a completely custom system installed instead of buying the "off the shelf" Baker's, Lincoln Land, Kepich, etc. system for $1200+. Mine was about $550 and was made from 2.25" pipe instead of the stock 2". I added a performance "all-open" Edelbrock air cleaner and packed my original for show.
Well said Dan

Hi Jim,

Not as far as I know. I've already posted the few that I took myself....I intended on taking more, but we had 2 of the 7 folks running the meet drop out at the last minute. So....I ended up running around more than anticipated.....I didn't even get a good look at most of the cars there (unfortunately).

There were only a few people there that I recognized from the forum (members, in general, should be more active on here - however, that's for another day/another time), but maybe some of them took a few pictures.

Tim Howley was there taking photos left and right, so there will be pictures on the main LCOC site ( http://www.lcoc.org/PhotoAlbum/PhotoAlbum.asp )at some point, as well as in Comments a couple issues from now.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Okay, thanks guys. I'll look forward to seeing more pics soon.
In the meantime, I asked John Walcek to give us a preview of some of the pics he took. Here are a few. Looks like it was a wonderful show.

Thanks. The shots of cars in front of the train engine required very tedious backing....John was very patient when guiding people in. That was Sunday morning before everyone left. I don't remember the '61 convertible at all, and I was thinking there were only 3 Mark II's there, not 4. I do recognize the 79 Mark V CS owned by Mr. & Mrs. Weyrick of Ohio. Nice people who bought it new. Behind it, I spy Tim Wilson's '61 sedan.
