Signature rules

Post by Dan Szwarc »

Signatures MUST NOT contain more than five lines of text, this includes blank lines. The purpose of this is to emphasize the response in the post and not the signature of the poster. Go to forums without signature rules and they are a freakin' mess to read. Here's an example of a site that looks like garbage when signatures are bigger than the content being posted.

Signatures cannot have links to offensive sites. Offensive is defined as that which the operators of this board consider offensive. Signatures cannot have links considered to be spam or simply to ads or promos or other sites that are not personal sites. Don't like to anything non-car-related. No one is buying your Viagra or Penis enlargement tablets so don't bother posting a link. No links to stores.

Pictures in signatures can be neither more than 100 pixels high or 250 pixels wide. No exceptions.

Pictures and 5 lines of text are allowed in one sig. This includes blank lines. If the lines are too long and wrap around to form more than 5 lines of text in a 1024x768 window, your signature is too big.

Other Suggestions and Comments:
Your sig is supposed to be a sig, not your life's story or the history of all your cars. Keep it reasonable, short and sweet. Do you think people on a Lincoln forum care about your Cadillacs? Or cars you no longer own? People learn a lot from a sig. Besides, if one posts a lot in a thread, who wants to see 20 lines of the same text every time someone posts?
If you're going to be philosophical, keep it short and sweet.

Failure to follow signature rules may result in your signature being removed or edited without notice. Refusal to follow the rules may result in being banned by username, email, and IP address and/or your account being deleted.

If you complain about your signature being edited, think about it before you do it. It's not likely it will get you anywhere or anything but banned.

Specifically Cadillac sites. :D

If someone has a picture that they would like to have in their signature could you resize it? Or do they have to do it themselves.

I cannot do everyone's picture. You will have to use the appropriate software tool to resize it yourself. For Macs, use Graphic Converter. For windows, try photo editor, photo shop, paint shop pro, etc.

Several users are in violation of our simple, but necessary rule regarding signature size. Please check your signature.

Bump.

Just a note. I don't "selectively enforce" signature rules. I enforce them as I see them. If your signature has been in violation for weeks or months before you are notified, it is because I haven't noticed or had time to enforce the rules. Please update your signature or have it updated for you if you are in violation.

I've got a question. If I want to list my vehicles in my signature and have the text hyperlinked to a new page with a picture, how do I do that, or what is the code?

Thanks.

Links in your signature have to be done using BBCode. Any link will NOT automatically open a new window.

I don't have time to enforce them on everyone all the time, but if you get a note, please be polite and comply.
Feel free to point out others to me in PM.

Ok Dan, then you are saying my siggy is far too big because it's not offensive or any of the other stuff mentioned in the rules. I will change it then by editing it down.

PEACE!
