Couple of Lincolns on BAT - If price remains low......

If it is Lincoln-related and doesn't seem to fall in the other categories or you just can't figure out where to put it, put it here!

Couple of Lincolns on BAT - If price remains low......

Post by rick »

There are a couple of Lincolns currently on BAT that are worth looking at. One is a '71 Mark 3 that's pretty darn nice and also there is a somewhat retro, project '62.... but the '62 is a real good starting point compared to most ....... for someone wanting a '62. If the auction proves to be sluggish, someone might get a good buy.

I know the shop mentioned in the ad that worked on the ‘62. I’m not interested in buying the car but am reaching out to the shop for some intel since the car and the shop are close to me.

I notice that the Mark 3 sold for $20,000 and it would appear to me like seller and buyer both did okay on that one.

The '62 is still available and the seller has apparently assured BAT followers that the timing gear was indeed replaced.

The 62 looks really good for the price it's sitting at right now. It'll be interesting to see what it ends at.

That dual master cylinder looks like the brake light switch is coming out where there's usually a bleeder. Is that actually an ok spot for it?

The 1962 Continental that I mentioned on BAT made it all the way to $14,250. but failed to sell because it didn't make it to the Reserve Price.

According to a lot of the comments, the haters didn't like the fact that the car was running on resto-mod wheels.

But it was in pretty darn good shape in my opinion and anyone could have refigured the car back to stock, right Mike? - car was in good shape in comparison to what many of us began with when we bought our own cars. I'm betting the Reserve was $15,000.

Generally Rest-O-Mods sell for less money than an OE restoration.

Rest-O-Mods are difficult to get into a modern condition with seemless system integration unless there is a lot of money spent. Most won't spend the money.
Or a poor condition ride gets wheels/tires a disc brake and sound system conversion and that is it.
Turning corners with a stock suspension and 22s kind of sucks.
Spending money on a well working suspension and power train upgrade is a lot of cash. Even if the cash is spent and not well integrated then the ride looks nice and still handles poorly. Or has some other operating quirk.

A well done rest o mod should operate like a 5 year old car or newer.

A excellent condition stock ride can get away with some operating issues because the 50 + year old technology is not as good as 2020 technology.

Its not even really a resto mod just a mod.
I think what it got bid up to is an ok price. They did a lot of the stuff people here seem to do. But it's always hard to put price on that stuff including the rebuilt engine and transmission when you don't know how it was done or even if it was done right.
The body and interior look ok. I'd rather get a car in that shape and at least know what you're dealing with then paying up for something that ends up being a turd with shiny paint.

Well, here's another one ( a 1964) with the auction winding down soon. Currently bid at $36,250. but totally a cherry. 22,000 original miles
Fun to look at. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964- ... tal-sadan/

Hopefully a bit of a flurry at the end........... unless one of us buys it. :)

For some reason, I keep getting booted off the Forum when I hit the Submit button.

Well, the '64 Lincoln ended up selling for $46,250. That's a lot of money. But that was a lot of car.

I usually don't like 64s as much as 61-63 but that's one nice looking car.

$46,250 for a car with:

"Exterior imperfections are highlighted in the gallery and consist of damage on the front and rear bumpers on the right side as well as creases on the right-side doors."
"The seller indicates that some of the window switches are inoperative, the radio functions intermittently, and the air-conditioning system does not blow cold."

So, for almost $50k someone will have to do body work, try to match the paint, fix the window switches, radio and the A/C and who knows what else. The engine bay looks like a mess. In one of the photos, it is evident the weatherstripping is in poor condition, which isn't surprising for an original California car.

Someone wanted that car badly. It's nice, but wow. Prices are stupid high. Hopefully it doesn't end up heavily modified.

The 60's hood ornament looks way out of place on the Mark III, but otherwise looks like a really nice example...

Lately I seem to be the guy mentioning slab sides for sale on BAT. Hope I'm not being repetitive or bothering anyone.

Presently there's a 1962 convertible with 4 hours left in the auction and the money bid at the moment is $83,500. Fun car to look at.
