It’s taking shape and color. Nobody ever made a model of a 1973 coupe

Re: My son is making me a scale model of my 1973 coupe
Jon, that is really impressive! Now, I'm not one to collect a whole lot of model cars, mainly because the overwhelming majority of them are 2-door models, even if the actual cars came in 4-door versions; 4-door models are very hard (and very expensive) to find. The majority of the collection I do have consists of 4-door cars, nearly half of which, admittedly, are '60s Lincolns. But this would be one I would certainly add to my collection, because I always thought the 2-door full-sizers of the early '70s were so much better-looking, more streamlined. If that works out as it looks like it will, perhaps your son should consider making some part-time $$ by offering them for sale, maybe even expanding on the years offered (like, '70—'72). I'd be interested in buying one, especially if it is in fact 1/25 scale.

Re: My son is making me a scale model of my 1973 coupe
Tony - Many many years ago my son had a side business making scale models for car enthusiast down to the license plate number but he has retired from that. He has always wanted to make a model of my 73 Coupe and all the models are either 4 doors or limousines but with 3-D printing and other technologies things which were impossible years ago are quite possible today. I am really impressed with your detail this model is taking which is why am posting in progress pictures for all to appreciate. I can’t wait until I see the final product.TonyC wrote:Jon, that is really impressive! Thanks for sharing. The model is coming along beautifully and is going to look exactly like your car. I hope you will be able to tell us a little about how he did the build at some point. Did he start from scratch using plastic sheets? Will he make a detailed chassis too or use an existing as a base? Is he hand painting the silver trim? You're a lucky day. That will make a great gift for you!

I do know the silver trim is a foil that he has used many times in the past. I also know he is using a chassis and interior for my car very similar to the Lincoln. As I get more details I will try to share them. I am really impressed with how the grill and headlight covers look. I have scale models of my Corvette Mustang and Cadillac so this will complete my collection.LC67Vert wrote:Thanks for sharing. Re: My son is making me a scale model of my 1973 coupe
Hey, some of us don't have those technologies at our immediate disposal, so we still have to rely on those who do have them and know how to use them. Hell, if I had a 3D printer, I'd be cranking out those upgraded reproduction starboard mirrors that I kept talking about and everyone keeps crying for, and charging half a mint for each one ordered, just as an "I told you so" to everyone here who ridiculed me for having the idea (after all, the OE mirrors with their design flaws go for a mint nowadays, so half a mint for a superior modification to the OE design isn't unreasonable).
Tell him to reconsider his total retirement. I know I can't be the only one who'd love to have an early-'70s fullsizer Coupé in his model collection.
