Trailering
I've been contemplating buying an enclosed trailer for my '63 LCC so we can haul our Lincoln with us on road trips. So was wondering what kind of trailers you have for your Lincoln? Or, if you already have one - what would upgrade or add to it that you wished it had now?
I'm not sure my marriage can survive another Lincoln-related large expense, but one can dream!

Re: Trailering
I have an 18' open trailer with a 4' dove tail. Twin axles and I tow with an F150 that has the 5.8 Triton V8 with the tow package. Don't tow much anymore since I drive the car, but did tow for quite some time. Since I didn't tow much (maybe once or twice a year), Can't help you with what I'd like to have that I don't. I did put a winch on but other than that, not much else to add.

I'd never seen that thread, it was posted before I joined. But it sure was good to see Barry's name back on my screen. It's been some time since he's stopped by. Wayne

Re: Trailering
I have seen the trailer when it was being built. The back end was cut off and was being modified to make the entry doors. It was crashed once on the way to a show with his Mark II inside. The Mark was not damaged much.
At the time I had an Airstream and Barry's build made it to the Airstream Forums.

Re: Trailering
My car hauler is a Mirage x-pres. There are better trailers out there, though, but this one does just fine. It’s considered a 26’ but it is 24’ plus 2’ because of the “V” nose which is why I bought it. I put a 12k badlands/Harbor Freight winch and battery in the “V” portion, plus the “V” portion will eventually have a small work bench built in and a chemicals shelf (extra oil/fuel/spare parts for the tow pig). I’ve also put in E track for when it’s not a car hauler lol.
So far, I’ve put a little less than 20k miles on the trailer in about 5 months. I paid just over $10k brand new after taxes.

Hotrod429 - That's a pretty nice setup. With 20k miles in 5 months, you have been breaking it in! I was talking with another old Lincoln owner. He's down in South Carolina and has the same size trailer, but a different brand (Cynergy). He too has a 12000 Lb winch from Harbor Freight. How do you supply power to the winch - do you have a separate battery?
Great pics!

Thanks! I was originally going to get an open hauler, but didn’t want classics exposed to the elements or to road debris.
When I put in the winch, the 12v from the tow pig wasn’t working (broken wire, fixed now). So I just opted to have a removable battery in front of (behind?) the winch. It’s between the winch and front wall of the trailer. It lasts a few cycles, then I recharge it. It’s not a perfect set up right now, but it works. I’ve been on the move and haven’t had a chance to wire it into the onboard 12v supply. It will be wired into the trailers 12v to be charged while driving. I average 2200 miles a trip, so that’s plenty of time to trickle charge haha.
I will also be putting in a solar battery maintainer, eventually, but again, I’ve been too busy.
When I bought the trailer, I was hoping to do all the upgrades at once, then reality set in hahaha

Re: Trailering
I am sure you have thought of these but here are a few suggestions. With the weight of a classic Lincoln get a 10,000lbs trailer not the normal 7,000lbs trailer. Be carful of the tires they put on them, most are made in China and fall apart. My camper blew 2 tires while they delivered it from the factory. Last tires I bought were Goodyear Endurance which were made in the USA at the time. LED lights hold up better. It will fit in a 20ft trailer but get a little longer for storage or if you buy something on the trip.

I second the GY Endurance tires.mlj427 wrote: Last tires I bought were Goodyear Endurance which were made in the USA at the time. LED lights hold up better.
I had an Airstream and have a larger boat with trailer. The Endurance trailer tires have held up far better than anything else GY made in the past.

Re: Trailering
I think Barry would be interested in selling the trailer if you made an offer. Also, it I remember, he had the Porsche in the trailer when he had the accident.
Also, if you are going to be towing the Lincoln in an enclosed trailer, make sure your tow vehicle can handle it. The Lincoln is 5,200 lbs empty, and if you add an enclosed trailer, you could be adding another 3,000 lbs. However, I think an open trailer only weighs like 2,000 lbs.
