Possible New Source for Whitewalls
Hey - I just found this tire supplier today and thought I would throw it out here.
My Coopers have died of old age, so a new set all around is in my near future.
Here's a narrow stripe: https://www.performanceplustire.com/tir ... 5:ty:Tire/
And a different model with a 1.5 inch whitewall, which is noticeably wider than original, but I'm thinking I might like that.
Anyway - for your consideration https://www.performanceplustire.com/tir ... :23575-15/

Re: Possible New Source for Whitewalls
Nice price, but I do see a review complaining about yellowing of WW. May not be a big deal for some, but it would be for me. I dont want to have to mess with cleaning/ bleaching the whitewall's all of the time.
This is why I just bit the bullet and spend the $$ for Diamondbacks. Guaranteed not to yellow or darken. I've had no issues with them since 2014.
These look like good candidate for a budget tire.

Re: Possible New Source for Whitewalls
Never heard of Vitour tires before. Nice to have a reasonably priced alternative. There are still options out there, believe it or not. I put a set of Toyo Extensas on my ‘67 last year. So far so good.

I agree with Suicide Kid. I just put a set of Hankook tires on my '79 and they're starting to leech brown in the whitewall already in spots. Should have bought the Diamondbacks as I have done in the past. Sometimes saving a buck doesn't work out so well. Hopefully the tires the OP mentioned will be a viable alternative.

Re: Possible New Source for Whitewalls
I put Diamondback's on the convertible two years ago and the whitewalls have always stayed bright white. I bought Uniroyal Tiger Paws for my Mark VII because I thought an American tire maker would make good quality tires. They were only $73 a piece, but I can never get them white without sanding them with 800 grit sandpaper. Even then they don't get really white. And yes, I've used everything from Bleche White to mineral spirits. After sanding, they turn brown again within a day or two, even when just sitting in the garage. I'll never buy anything again other than Diamondbacks!JonW wrote:I agree with Suicide Kid. Another vote for Diamondbacks. They are bright white and stay that way without a lot of maintenance. Spend the money up front, the cost is soon forgotten, and your Lincoln deserves a good tire.

Re: Possible New Source for Whitewalls
I can’t justify spending over a $1,000 for a set of tires on a car that maybe gets driven a 1,500-2,000 miles a year. The tires will dry rot before I can wear out the tread, more than likely.

Re: Possible New Source for Whitewalls
I had Firestone 1.6” WWs on my 77. While incorrect, they looked right for the car.

A bad batch?
I've my WW Hankooks for 4 years now with zero issues on the sidewalls or the tires themselves.

Re: Possible New Source for Whitewalls
I ended up going with the Hankook H724.
Great price from Discount Tires Direct https://www.discounttiredirect.com/buy- ... ad-reviews
Free delivery, $50 rebate card.
I will over-inflate them to prevent flat spots. They will surely die of old age before I prematurely wear the center out!
I'm getting pretty comfortable with this mail-order tire stuff. Wide whites from Summit, some LT blackwalls for my '39 pickup and now these.
Come to think of it - I've had UPS deliver sinks & toilets, generators & snow blowers and laminate flooring, too. Lucky drivers!!!
