Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
I think this thread is valuable however I would think we should stick to businesses. Reporting a bad eBay transaction with a private individual is like counting snow flakes. First there are millions of sellers and if they are not a business they are selling some old car parts. When the few they have are gone they will most likely never sell another. To list there name is useless because they most likely will never sell that type of item again. Also having bought and sold over 2200 items (with a 100% rating) on eBay I know one item that gets stepped on at the post office and damaged does not make a bad seller. I think the real value is listing a business with bad business practices that one of us might end up using is more valuable. Just a thought. I know posting the others makes the poster feel good but does not do much more. We run the risk of filling up countless pages of those stories and the bad vendors get lost in those pages.

Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
I fully agree with silentthunder. This thread is an important one, especially for those of us that live in Europe. if mistakes are made, then they can cost us a lot of money. Heres my contribution.
A while ago, I had been buying parts for my Coupe from a particular dealer. At first, all went well, so the purchases continued. Then, I asked him to find me some interior parts, which he did. We agreed a price, and he promised to ship them. A couple of days later, an email arrived which said that the parts were unavailable. Which was fair enough, and at the time, I had no problems with this. Although I will return to this in a minute.
The next order was for the switches, complete with console that are in the front armrests, both sides. As usual, a price was agreed, and the parts were duly shipped. When they arrived, not only were they the wrong switches in the wrong consoles, but rather than being disconnected at the connector, the wires had been cut. In some cases, an inch or so from the switch itself. In short, they were totally unusable! At the time, I didnt bother about it, but broke contact with this seller. To send them back, would not only cost freight (expensive here) but also extra import duty and sales tax on the replacements.
Fast forward in time. A few days ago, I posted a topic on here regarding replacement vinyl roof/headliner for my car. A few days later, a pm arrived offering me some from the above mentioned seller. A few pm's were exchanged, and he obviously didnt remember me...or at least, clained not to. to cut a long story short, it ended up with him offering to send me some complementary reconditioned switches. I asked for his email address, so that we could resolve the situation, and that was the last I heard from him....
Returning to the interior parts, by pure chance, I found out a few weeks after the event that they had been sold to an aquaintence of mine for more money....
I've deliberately avoided giving his name here, as this is a member of the forum, and am not sure of the rules. If one single member asks that he should be named, thinks I have cause, I will do.

Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
Joe, that indeed sounds like a seller to avoid. Based on your side of this story, you've been patient and courteous enough. Send him a PM alerting him of your post in this thread, and give him a week to set things straight with you (you know if and when he read your PM as it goes from your 'out box' to your 'sent box'). When the week's up, post his name.

Reijer, he's already had 10 days to reply to my last pm....but I'll do as you suggest.

An update on this. The vendor did indeed respond to my pm, and the matter has now been resolved to my complete satisfaction, without the need for multiple messages discussing the problem.

Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
It makes me so happy to finally get the chance to air my laundry with J.C. Whitney & Co. Way back in 1979 I ordered and paid for a clamp-on five gallon gas tank with holder from them, like thirty bucks. After receiving many successive postcards over a period of four or five months: they were processing my order; item has been back ordered; item scheduled for shipment; etc.--I got a legal form letter from their representative saying they had gone Chapter 11 [or something] bankruptcy, did I want to file a claim? Was I mad? It took several months for me to believe that could be done. And to top it off, I continued to get their [expletive deleted] catalogs. At any rate, I decided with my best judgment not to file the claim, to let it go, to never do business with them, and to tell everyone from then on not to do business with J.C. Whitney. End of story. Thanks so much for letting me get that off my chest.

Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
In the 70s I ordered a few parts for a 1959 Mercedes 220S from J.C. Whitney when Mercedes parts were pretty hard to find. A distributor cap, a fan belt and an oil filter if I recall. I got a distributor cap and a speedometer cable! The part number for the cable and the fan belt were one digit off, instead of the last number being a 3, it was a 4. I never did figure out what the cable was supposed to fit. I never dealt with those fools again, even though they sent me catalogs every 20 minutes.

Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
I doubt something that happened at JC Whitney's in the 1970s is relevant today.

Re: Warning: Sellers to avoid
Hey, I have a photographic memory. I still remember the day my Dad brought a 1960 Thunderbird home from the office for the weekend. Loved that car, and later owned three others. My point was that we do remember things good and bad. After all, isn't that what this forum is all about--memories alot of us have in common of cars we have loved? At any rate, Dan says it's irrelevant, so I agree. I got my point across, now I'll drop it.
