65 Interior Option
I'm snooping around this car for sale. Does this interior look like a factory option or, as I think, more likely aftermarket seat covers of some sort? Owner claims they are original. But he also claims the original motor is a 462.

I am going to vote no.
The driver's seat cover seem at the top outer corner does not fit correctly.
The color and pattern of the seat cover does not match the door panels.

Re: 65 Interior Option
That's no original upholstery. First, it's impossible for 53-year-old upholstery to look that new unless the car was a museum piece the whole time. Second, the upholstery has no patterning in it--all Lincoln upholstery options had patterns, and little chrome pieces in the seat backs which are clearly missing from this one.
I'm not knocking the job itself, just the claim of authenticity. The owner either does not know Lincolns at all or is lying (his claim about the upholstery is definitely untrue; the engine size may or may not be untrue, depending on whether the original 430 was swapped out for a 462 sometime in its past).

Re: 65 Interior Option
Steve, you are correct; that is not original upholstery on the seats. It is aftermarket seat covers. Based upon the door panels and carpeting, which ARE original, the original interior of the car was either Trim 71 silver blue moire cloth in the roll-over pleat design, or Trim 81, silver blue leather, also in the roll-over pleat design. Although called "silver blue", that trim color tended more to silver or gray than to blue. In some areas of the photos, you can see what appear to be vertical lines on the lower seat backs where the original pleats would be, indicating that the original upholstery is still underneath.

Re: 65 Interior Option
Thanks. I agree. I'm thinking the original leather is under those seat covers. If you enlarge the pictures you see both front seats have a split in them on the upper back. At first that looked like part of the design of the after market covers, but upon closer look I think its leather under there. Now, it would be interesting to know if the leather was new when that was covered or if the leather is shot. I'm going to try to find out.
