ATTN 1970 owners! Sticker info needed!
NEW: Anyone out there with a 1970 Lincoln with a 460, and as best as you know the original valve covers? If so, PLEASE take a pic of the emissions sticker that's behind the oil filler on the drivers side valve cover!
I have two emissions decals to choose from for my 1970 Mk III. (non-California) It will go on the drivers side valve cover, just behind the oil filler.
#1 is from Bakers
#2 is from flea bay
Here's the pic:

Re: which emission decal would you choose?
Just because a seller says it is the correct label doesn't mean they are correct. I'm guessing your originals are long gone?
Only one can be correct. My guess is #2 is correct, but I'd have to check my pics of other 1970 Mark IIIs.
Does 10 degrees BTDC match what your Mark III should have or is 4 correct? Check your owners manual.

Then you can't go with #2. But does that mean #1 is right?
I must say, it closely matches the sticker on my 1970 Mercury with a 429.

Re: which emission decal would you choose?
Note the different part number suffixes on them in the lower right hand corner - "A" on top and "B" on bottom. Might be that the "A" one was offered the beginning of the model year and "B" came about later as the Feds or corporate attorneys wanted to see more language added. It's also interesting to see that the bottom one calls for headlights to be on, implying that the vacuum-operated doors be drawing vacuum to pull them open, but that doesn't answer the different timing specs. Mark III owners with original/unrestored cars might be able to narrow down a change date by sharing which one is on their car and build date.

The headlights on is to load the alternator with more current. The vacuum has nothing to do with it.AlT63bird wrote: It's also interesting to see that the bottom one calls for headlights to be on, implying that the vacuum-operated doors be drawing vacuum to pull them open, but that doesn't answer the different timing.
Open or closed, there is no vacuum load whatsoever. Vacuum only changes when they are opening or closing, and even that is minimized by the small hoses and the vacuum tank.
The two decals are for different applications. Unfortunately, the decal is not in the MPC.

Decal #2 matches the one on my 71 Mark III- on the driver's side valve cover, just behind the oil filler. And my Mark was originally from Indiana.

Your engine timing is supposed to be 4 BTDC? 70's according to the manual are 10 BTDC.briven95 wrote:Decal #2 matches the one on my 71 Mark III- on the driver's side valve cover, just behind the oil filler. And my Mark was originally from Indiana.

The Feds.the Feds or corporate attorneys

Re: which emission decal would you choose?
A very nice gentleman that's selling his 70 MkIII on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... OTORS:1123) took a picture of his decal for me.
I can't fully make out the number, I think it's DOAE - 9C485-J. What do you guys think? Anyone have one of these laying around?
Here it is: This muddies the water even further...

Re: which emission decal would you choose?
I'm skeptical that any decal on a Lincoln mentions a manual transmission.
D0AE is a Ford/Mercury Sticker. In fact, it looks very similar to the one on my 429 Mercury 2bbl.

Mine was replaced when the engine was out. I don't have any close-up pics of that decal to see if the new one was exactly the same as the old one, and can't check since Gerald now has the car in Austria.

Gerald's car is a 71, the sticker will be different.
