The second decal is the same as the decal on my 1970 Mark III. The engine is original although it has been out at some stage and repainted the wrong color. I have managed to get enough of the paint off to identify the decal.
The engine number matches the build sheet.
The build sheet gives the production date of June 29 1970
I think you will find the DOAE decals shown in the thread are 429 Engines.
Just out of curiosity, what was your build date?

June 29, 1970 has to be one of the last 1970 Mark IIIs built. New model year usually starts in late July or early August.

Heres a pic of mine (I painted them, but taped over the original)

I dont know if its orange because it was orange, or turned orange in time though lol
(i tried uploading but keeps saying my picture is invalid, i kept resizing, but that didnt make a difference, so im putting a FB link until then...i hate all this computer stuff lol)
of course its auto resized so you cant see much, but i can take a picture when i get the change, of just the sticker.

The waters are very muddied! lol I've heard of guys with their 70s at 6BTDC but 1st I've seen one. The more retarded the timing, the lower the horsepower and emissions. It's likely that Ford was gradually detuning the car in advance of the 1972 model year.
Base timing is something that applies from the factory when everything is new and adjusted in spec. 40+ years later, tune the car for how you drive it and the gas available. It may not be anything close to the factory tag.

Based on the 1970 and 1971 model year shop manual. In the engine section (21) for 429 & 460 excluding CJ, SCJ and police engines or high output 429 engines
The base ignition timing is the same for both years
429 (either 2V or 4V) is 4 degrees BTDC
460 is 10 degrees BTDC
The 460 4V for Lincoln Continental and Continental Mark III is a single diaphragm. And has Thermactor for what it's worth. Every 1970 & 1971 Lincoln I have ever seen has a single diaphragm distributor.
I have a 1970 LTD with a 429 4V no Thermactor and a single diaphragm distributor. However it's past is a bit sketchy. And based on below it should have dual diaphragm distributor.
Moving to the ignition or distributor section (22 for 70 and 23 for 71) of the shop manual things get interesting.
For model year 1970
Lincoln Continental and Continental the distributor is listed as D0VF B which is a single diaphragm distributor. Base timing is listed as 6 degrees BTDC
Ford and Mercury of various flavors of 429 list 7 distributors all dual diaphragm distributors. The CJ, SCJ & Boss 429 have 10 degree base ignition timing.
All regular 429 both 2V and 4V have 6 degree base timing

So to muddy the waters for an engine decal that specifies base ignition timing, model year 1970 Lincoln had 6 degree base ignition timing. Model year 1971 Lincoln had 10 degree base ignition timing.
My personal opinion is base ignition timing was created for a need to meet drivability, emissions and fuel economy standards. Clearly the stock 460 could be set to 10 degrees. I bet that CJ, SCJ and Boss had rich fuel mixtures as compared to all other 385 engines such that more advance was OK. And for every one of those a thousand Maverick/Pinto engines were made to offset the burn of the big block.
