1962 size of the whitewall on the tire

I have "skinny" whitewall on my 62. I have just been told by an expert that 62 still had "fat" whitewall. SO which is it or did they switch during the year?

THanks

Kind of depends on how one defines skinny and fat.

I believe the attached picture is from the company.
The width of the white wall is likely in the 2" range.
Narrower than the 1950s
But certainly not as "fat" as the skinner WW into the 1970s which was closer to 3/4"

And install a set that makes you happy

I used Diamondback 1.6" on my '63. I'm not sure if they were skinnier from factory, but I liked the look of them vs. the fatter or skinnier option.
Unless you're in it for points, I say go w/ what you like, man.

Hey, I know that Lincoln dealership!

As for the tires, I do believe the 62 had larger whitewalls than the 63.

I think the '62 sales brochure states reduced size whitewalls. In '61 the white touched the rim, in '62 there was a bit of black between the rim and the white.

The LCOC authenticity Manual wrote:36.2 Tires
Several manufacturers supplied tires to Lincoln including General, Goodyear, Goodrich and Firestone. Other manufacturers may have also been used. Sedans without air conditioning are equipped with 9.00 by 14 four ply or four ply rated with a load range B. Sedans with air conditioning and all convertibles are equipped with 9.50 by 14 four ply or four ply rated tires with a load range B. In 1961 the wide white wall of approximately two and one half (2-1/2) inches is provided. In 1962 and later years the narrower one (1) inch white wall is used. It is felt that the wider white wall could be requested in 1962 as a no cost option also. An optional six (6) ply one inch wide white sidewall tire is offered in 1963.
