Did the early '69 Mark III's have a chrome cowl vent instead of a body colored cowl vent in the rear? I don't believe I have ever seen one that was chrome installed.
"Not many know, but the very first (we're talking when production was still in the double/low triple digits) Continental Mark III cars off the line had a chrome-plated rear cowl vent between the rear glass and the decklid. Due to some chrome-plating/manufacturing defects, the cowls were quickly changed to "body color" instead." - eBay Ad

Re: 1969 Mark III Rear Cowl Vent
I've never seen one chromed, and I've never seen any documentation saying that Ford ever did that from the factory.
No Lincoln currently...

I have never seen any documentation to confirm this, and none of the original factory photos show a chrome grille.

Good to note Jeremy, thanks. I figured this was not correct, plus if it was, how awful would that look??jsanford wrote:I have never seen any documentation to confirm this, and none of the original factory photos show a chrome grille.

I think it is a cast part, which has a silvery appearance. Not chrome. It would likely have been painted body color.
I have evidence of this. Anyone can chrome is after the fact.
