Never had been able to figure out what the (colors) "RD OG" code referred to on the build sheet . . . .

untill I pulled them out to replace the upper and lower control arm bushes.

I have never seen markings on coils survive like that. Makes me want to reproduce them on my mercury.

Here's the 1964 Lincoln front spring chart from the MPC where red and green stripes are mentioned.

Maybe the judges should start checking for these stripes. :D

Also noticed red stripe or stripes on my '69.

There was a no cost heavy suspension offered, although don't know what they called it, (sport suspension, touring suspension or just heavy duty suspension). As such, the springs may have a different color stripe?

elcad70,

Did you have a change to see if the rear springs are color coded? From looking at the build sheet, they may have a green stripe?

On my '69, they appear to have the identical as front, red stripe.

The spring colors are described in the MPC and we used up through 1973. In 1974, Ford switched to plastic-coated spring tags. In 1979 and later, the spring information is printed on the car identification tag on the door or pillar.

Check out my thread about spring tags: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42821

Here's the only two front spring color sets used for the Mark III in 1969. The MPC has them for the other years, too.

Note that the spring part number is a 1966 Ford part number (C6AZ prefix).

Where and how they are marked, I haven't found.

I'm sorry I missed this question. The same thing crossed my mind but as yet I haven't had a need to spend much time under the rear. I plan on replacing the shocks at some stage so that will provide an opportunity to explore.

With Dan supplying the info on available springs, this area of authenticity is about covered. Namely there were 2 front spring rates available for the series and two for the rear springs but '69 model year was different than the later '70-'71.

Air conditioning was option for the '69 model year, and this explains reference to the lighter spring rate striped gold and gray.

Mentioned about a no cost "heavy suspension" which seems to include for '69, gold/pink stripe springs and for '70-'71 gray/brown striped springs.

elcad70's rear springs should appear with grey and green stripes.

Notice that there is also mentioned to a yellow stipe, but elcad70's build sheet only refers to two colors?

Just out of interest, does anyone have an entry in any of the "Suspension Packages"

Mine are all blank.

Here are the 1970 and 1971 Front Spring Codes for Mark III:

And the Spring Colors:

Ignore the 1N color. That's not for Marks.

If the judges are not going to check for correct color stripes on springs, then this thread is useful for those restoring suspensions. From a authenticity standpoint the judges may check for proper ride height. Those values should show up in the black covered tech data manual.
