Today I found a nice way to clean engine bay plastics that were really dirty. Some overspray, undercoating, oil and all kinds of dirt. First I tried with a dozen different solvents, but it did not clean all of. After rubber care part looked very "cheap" and had different colored spots. Maybe because some dirt was left that prevented surface to absorb rubber care.
This was the start. Brown is very old undercoat with dirt on it.
Also the chrome sign was oversprayed from sides.
That sign was cleaned with Autosol Chrome glanz.
Then I tried steel wool! Right side is cleaned with steel wool, left from it is a part that has biggest dirt scratched of.
Now I finally got the finish I was looking for after putting a lot of Bumper Care and wiping extra of with a clean cloth.
A closer look with cleaned sign.

Excellent results! Steel wool does a fine job on things like this.
