Removing over spray on windows?

Post by twistngo »

Does anybody have a good way of getting over spray off my side glass? Previous owner had a $13.00 paint job put on the car and the side windows have bad over spray in side and out. Has been there for at least 5 years. Thanks.

You can use rubbing compound on the glass. Clay bar also worked for me.

Like Dan, I also use a clay bar on my windows; it works just as well on glass as it does on the paint job. The same contaminants that cause your car's finish to lose that "slick" feeling over time also do the same thing to your windows, so, every three months or so, when I clay my car's paint, I also do the windows. I have never thought to use rubbing compound on the glass, but why not? I have heard of people using toothpaste as a polishing agent on glass, so I imagine a mild rubbing compound would work much in the same way.

Lacquer thinner, but be careful it will take the paint of anything it touches. I use it on a rag and take my time and remove a little at a time.

Acetone is the easiest way to remove the over spray. Wear rubber gloves, pour some onto a cloth rag or a paper rag and wipe over the glass. Do not have the rag soaking wet or it will drip on the paint. A clay bar will probably not do much on 5 year old paint. A razor blade may scratch the glass.

I actually solved this problem just yesterday on my Lincoln and on a different car. I bought this http://www.detailersdomain.com/NanoSkin ... p_697.html and with zero experience using an orbital buffer I went and used it on the Lincoln's windows, which had an annoying overspray/hazing issue that I'd only tackled by hand on the windshield because it was so time consuming to fix with chemicals and scrubbing by hand. We used the Meguiar's orbital buffer on a speed setting of 2.5 and easily took overspray off of two of the doors on an Xterra that my brother is selling, then doing the entire Xterra with it, it removed the haze from the original paint, and after buffing off the excess Nano Shock spray, looks great.

+1 for razor blade too. Just cleaned my windshield, previous owner had painted with poor protection.... Razor blade is fastest way and harmless to glass when used properly.

xxx steel wool works great and it will not scratch the window or a razor blade. If you use a razor blade also use a little windex.
