A little late in the season, but I'm starting the engine cleanup in hopes that I can open the hood at a couple of shows this summer. I'm using 'Old Ford Blue' from NAPA on the air cleaner, valve covers and a few other parts. Gloss black and flat back in most other areas. I'll be bringing it home from my shop shortly and should be able to pressure wash the compartment with my new 1,600 electric pressure washer. I have a stone driveway, so I want to do the deed there rather than at my shop - keeps the weeds down.
The picture below is representative of what I'm starting with. Should be fun!
One thing I want to do is replace all of the stickers. I found this link on another post and gave it a shot.

Just ordered $20 worth of stickers. We'll see how they work out. I'll post some pictures as I make progress!

Never too late for an engine cleaning. Take more pictures as you go along!

Good luck Brendan. Take your time preparing things for paint. That's 95% of a good paint job.

Re: 1968 Continental Sedan - Engine Cleanup
I did this not long ago only because mine is a 64 I used black for the air cleaner and valve covers. I have a question though about valve covers. What should you do if they are a bit rusty inside? I would think paint would not be a good idea as if it breaks down, you have the debris in the motor. So what do you do? Does Powder coating break down if the valve covers were powder coated inside and out?

I had my valve covers powder-coated but only on the outside. Inside was treated with first treated with a rust neutralizer and then rubbed in with engine oil.
Re: 1968 Continental Sedan - Engine Cleanup
Ok, so here's where I'm starting ... sort of.
- I've already painted the air cleaner and thermostat housing with the 'Old Ford Blue'.
- While replacing the fuel pump (clearcoated thanks to Mike at Then and Now), I had to pull the fan and shroud, so those got a quick clean-up and blast of paint.
- While trouble-shooting the heat, I cleaned up the heater core cover and the vacuum actuator above it, then gave them a nice gloss-black finish
- I've also replaced the radiator hoses, plug wires, fuel lines and a couple of vacuum lines, but some of those will have to come off when I get the pressure washer out
I'm not sure how much I get done this weekend, but I'll post more photos next week as I pick away at it

Does anyone have a good picture or diagram of where these stickers should go?
