Re: Restore gas tank
It is possible for a Lincoln owner to restore a gas tank themselves, with what I nickname, a "sloshing compound". However, a tank can be "too far gone" for an amateur repair. I have done two tanks myself, and started a third . . when I realized shortly into the third one, that it was "too far gone" with holes, etc.. My first tank repair was done on one from a '66 Cadillac. It was huge, but proved successful. The second, and also successful one, was out of an 80s RWD Buick.
Understand, however, that such a job is very time-consuming and requires a fair amount of area to work in. A shop or former-household vacuum, blowing air (working backwards), will be most helpful . . . . but there is NO substitute for time to allow the properly-applied "sloshing compound" to dry. I believe it to be worth it to do it yourself, provided you have the space, time, and follow the instructions carefully.

Re: Restore gas tank
Grady,
We have a Gas Tank Renu about 45 minutes from me. I was going to take mine out last winter and take it to them. They are charging $300.00. Because we got snowed in it never got done. My plan is to do it this winter. I will let everyone know how it turns out.
I believe it takes about a week for them to get it done.

Re: Restore gas tank
Sometimes a radiator repair shop will also be able to restore your gas tank especially if it is leaking.

I had a local radiator shop do mine, only cost me $120 looked and workers great. I believe they used a product called red-kote
For some reason I love this big green money sponge!

Re: Restore gas tank
Today I got POR15 tank restoring kit. My tank is not leaking yet, but I decided to fix it to prevent future problems now when car is under construction. Hope this will do the trick.
