chip paint on lower body?

Post by atime »

Did the 1977 to 1979 Lincoln MK V originally come with a chip or slightly textured finish on the lower part of the fenders and doors??
Thanks,
Martin

I'm not sure I have ever seen it on a 70s Lincoln. My brother had it on his 1984 Mercury marquis, but... that's 1984.

Ford had a name for it, but I cannot recall what it was called. Does it match the factory paint perfectly and have a textured, rough surface that ends at the lower body crease?

It was in the 1980s. It may have been optional.
Not sure when that coating was introduced.
A sales brochure from that period will show it.

Ford called it Duraguard, pretty sure it was introduced in '77. It was not on all the cars, I think some plants applied it, and some didn't. All Canadian built cars had it. I worked in a L/M dealer body shop in '79, and we applied it to a surprising number of new cars which didn't come with it, but the customer wanted it.
