1971 Lincoln MKIII Headlight Covers?

Post by marcosalmon »

Hi all, glad to be here! Anyone have any clues on how to adjust the headlight covers on my 1971 MKIII in order for them to be flush when closed? Right now they close completely, but are not flush. I have all the manuals, including the shop manuals, but for the life of me they dont have anything on there on how to adjust those doors. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if 71 is different than 70. And the shop manuals are not that good from back then.

In the 1970 manual, section 43-01-11 gives the dimension for the gaps of the cover to grille opening. However it does not give direction for adjustment.
If the cover closes too far, there is a small rubber(?) piece that goes across the stop. Should that go missing the cover will close a bit further than is desirable.

Not sure if that helps or not.
