62 Platinum w/Blue Metallic Leather

Post by wimpy »

Could someone confirm what my dash pad should look like? The instrument & glove box surrounds are a darker blue/black which I don't believe is original.

Also, did all 62s come with walnut veneer door & glove box inserts? Sedan has them & need to be replaced, but the convertible I just acquired doesn't, it could have been removed as those could be buff marks visible which were left in cleaning up the door pieces.

Thanks,
Bill Payne

My '63 has the blue interior and here are some pictures of the recently restored blue dash pad. Mine (before I had it restored) was a darker blue. But I believe they turn darker with age / sun. When they restored and color matched mine, they used a piece of vinyl from the dash that was tucked behind the mount and was never exposed to the sun.

The inserts on the doors came either way depending on how It was ordered and there are probably a few more that are silver now from people removing the wood and not replacing it.

Thanks, Mike. That helps. Since I'm ordering the material to redo my sedan, ! could do the convertible door panels as well. The glove box door has the original owner's dash plaque & it appears to be the OEM blue.

The dash pad in '62 is different than "63, it is a 3 part thing with a center section which is, sometimes, lighter. My '62 has your interior, and it has that two tone look you are describing. The good news is that the 3 part unit is less affected by shrinkage, so will last longer before it cracks, mine is still good and it's original. They changed it in '63 to fit the redesigned heater, I think.
That wood is also different in '63, but was optional in both. I think the steering wheel was woodgrain with the wood panels, or interior trim colour with the silver trim.

Mark, your interior looks fantastic. I'm really stoked for you to get your car back to enjoy it!
