What is this?

Post by Jannelu »

On my 76 Town car, a piece of white plastic was sticking up behind the dashboard, pressed against the window, really annoing.
I tried to remove it but the plastic just disingreated so I removed the dashpad in order to get to it.
It was pressed into the sticky window sealant but it was quite easy to remove.
Does anyone have a clue what it is, maybe some kind of window mounting tool that someone missed to remove?

I've never pulled a 76 dashboard, but it looks like it might be something for aligning the placement of the windshield at the factory.

With holes in it, looks more like a part and not a tool.

Is the windshield OE. Carlite brand?
If yes the windshield may not have ever been replaced.

I don't think it's a part of the car. Probably a child's toy, or some other item left on the dash, which fell into the crack and became embedded into the sticky butyl type gasket. The newer type of window sealant skins over, but the old school stuff remains sticky for years. I have pulled lots of hairpins and similar things, and it's surprising how far they can work their way in.
