64 vent window rubber install

Post by msloquet »

After pulling entire window assembly I went for the removal of the petrified rubber in my vent windows. Mine was literally cracking apart. Purchased the rubber vent set from Lincolnland and I have to say it was a damn good match. Passenger window has 2 rivets holding the assembly together. Had to drill those out. The straight portion of your vent that attaches to window channel has 4 additional rivets that have to be drilled out as well but first pry the channel away from the straight metal section that is your window guide. Unscrew 2 x 5/16 hex head screws as well they hold bushing that controls the pivot action this attaches to motor, pay attention to the orientation of how you remount the 2 white plastic pieces that hold it together. Remove the wasted rubber insert new rubber strip and mount 4 fresh rivets. As others have mentioned I used a little lube to slide the V shaped rubber through bottom of vent guide.

Where did you find a new flocked rubber strip for the window channel?

My 66 needs it on both side and know many others who do.

Indeed; the rubber parts on Frankenstein's triangles are still mostly intact, but the felt channels are deteriorated. If a source for the later sub-series is out there, I'd like to know as well, even though it's not an immediate need for me.

Sorry. I was speaking of the triangle vent window rubber, itself.

Dan, you might take a look at these from Metro...they show the dimensions. I thought they were basically the same for all Lincolns in the 60's, but they show this part number for '52 to '62 only. Here's the screenshot from Rockauto.

Nope. Need to have grabbing ribs at the bottom at the lower corners.

The parting strip from a 68 F series truck fits, I tried it. This, however, does not have the rubber wedge attached at the top. If you can graft the two together, Carpenter sells a good quality felt strip, I used them in my truck.

I guess the correct name is Division bar glass run, C7TZ 8121546 A. I used the one from Dennis Carpenter for my truck, however they likely have one for a Galaxy, which would have the wedge at the top. But it may be different for frameless glass.

This is what I found at DC:

If you say it fits, then I’ll have to try it. I need to replace both sides.

Hard to see, but here is an OE run from a truck, next to the Lincoln one. Same profile, similar in length.

Here it is, in the Lincoln's division bar,, grips the same and glass opening is the same.

This one came from a '68, later trucks (73 I think) were different, deeper ribs.
Forgive the sawdust, that window was stored in a box in the corner of a woodworking shop.

I requested a sample from DC to see if it matches/fits 66/69 Lincolns.

I will see if they even bother to respond.
