Southeast Recommendations

Postby 65convert » Fri Jun 03, 2022 10:00 pm

Team,
The time has come to finally get my 65 Convertible completed. I have had the car for YEARS.... 10 to be exact. It is mechanically ready, but the time has now come for paint and body. I am in Buford Ga. Obviously, taking it to a traditional collision center is out of the question. I looked into American Restomod and was really not impressed.
My biggest concern is finding someone that has experience with these cars. Taking them apart is not an easy task. As an example the peak moldings have bolts holding them on at the edge of the fenders. The unknowing will try to pry and eventually break the moldings...... Another concern is dismantling the top. I have heard HORROR stories.

I know the entire top assembly can be removed with just removing a few pins as to not lose all the intricate adjustments, etc.

Can anyone recommend someone in the southeast that can knowledgably work on this car for body work and paint. Not looking for a "nut and bolt restoration". I want a very straight, car with even gaps, and a color change.

Please message me with any recommendations.

Thank you

Have you thought about removing and reinstalling all the trim yourself? Does the top HAVE to come off? I expect it would be easier to mask with the top on.

There are a few Lincoln specialist around. Not sure how much Chris Dunn does at Lincoln Land in Florida, but reach out to him for some recommendations.

Rich LIanna in Troutville, VA is one of the few old time experts left. He only works on one car at a time, aint' cheap, but is probably the best left outside of Lincoln Land if they do total restorations.

Another option is to check the LCOC directory for a member near you and ask them who they use.

There are other people in other parts of the country, but these are the closest to you that I know of.

Good luck, and don't expect anything to be cheap if you want it done right.

Thank you all.

Has anyone heard of Goldman Classics in Florida?

Also,
I am not 100% sure if removing the entire top assembly is better for paint and body work to be completed. I was concerned with how the car could be painted with the top still in place.
