We've run into a snag with the transmission. The only company that made an adapter to mate the Hemi to a GM 4L60E went bankrupt. There are supposedly a few suppliers who are trying to get the tooling for the adapter, and we hope to know some time next month if that happens. Our other options are to use a Chrysler 5-speed auto or the new 8-speed auto, but both will require reworking the floor pan. We're getting ready to order all the pulleys and accessory drives for the motor.

Re: My '62 project
Who made the kit, is the 6.1 bell housing the same as the 6.4. ATI has a kit for the 6.1 http://www.atiracing.com/products/adapterk/akit.htm and this company has one also http://www.transmissionsone.com/ have to scroll about 3/4 of the way down the page to get to the adaptors. Hope this helps waiting for some more pics.

Re: My '62 project
The shop has finally gotten its other projects out of the way and now it's my turn. We ordered a wiring harness and PCM for the Hemi, a built 4L60E transmission and torque converter, an adapter to mate the 4L60E to the Hemi, a TCM, and various pulleys and brackets.
We've researched converting the wipers to electric, and that's not looking very feasible, so we're planning on driving the wipers from the Mopar power steering pump. It appears that the Hemi is going to fit without any hood modification (thankfully) and with much less fabrication with mounting than we initially thought.
I'm torn on the suspension. I had a custom Caprice wagon that I bagged and really didn't care for the ride or handling characteristics, so I'm leaning towards a 1" drop with new springs. My first priority is that the car is very drivable as I do intend to put some miles on it.

Re: My '62 project
Sounds awesome! I concur about driveability, if your going to put on some serious miles on the car go with the springs.

We're making some progress now! Getting ready to drop in the 6.4 HEMI:

The Hemi is in and it fits! We had some issues with header clearance on the left side, but we have that solved now. We've had to cut out and enlarge the transmission tunnel to accept the GM 4L60E tranny. We decided to go with the GM tranny due to it's MUCH simpler electronics over the Mopar transmission. A stainless steel radiator/trans cooler/condenser is on the way.
The gauges have been sent out to be refurbished. They will look like the OEM gauges but will have modern internals. The only difference will be that the former clock will now be a tach.
The body work has started. The car is extremely clean with no rust (even the wiring harnesses under the dash are nearly pristine). I've always felt that the car was a shade or two off from its correct color of Silver Mink, and this was confirmed when they started stripping the paint. The correct Silver Mink is underneath the repaint.

Re: My '62 project
Jon, I had to make some deliveries down old 66 last week and briefly saw your Lincoln outside the door, with the hood off. If I wasn't working, I'd have stopped and had a look in person.
I've been having to use my '63 for a daily driver, for the past 3 weeks, since my regular driver took a crap. I might drive it over to Carl's and have a look at it. It's coming along nicely.
