Riveted front drums/hubs

I typically like to leave things pretty much stock but is there any reason the rivets in the front drums shouldn't be removed? Do the drums stay centered and do the rims ride up against them to hold them in place without the rivets? I'm going to have it apart for brake work and thinking I could remove the rivets now while its already apart to make it easier to check the brakes or do work on them again in the future.
