Nic Sanford’s 77 Project II
You never really get over letting go of a classic Lincoln. It’s not in near the shape of my white 77 from years back, but so far I’m happy with it. Got her fired up in about a minute after getting a new battery in, now the fun begins...

Re: Nic Sanford’s 77 Project II
Hi Nick,
Congratulations on the new machine. Always loved that color.
I tried to buy a new one in '77 and couldn't get a high enough credit score at the time to follow through with my plan - but the dealership okayed a brand new Mercury Marquis instead, which was a great car until it burned up on Bank Street in Ottawa (gas line leak at the carb).
I notice that other Continental sitting all alone in the garage with a tarp over the engine bay and I may detect a hurt or jealous expression on that '61 grill
Cheers
Rick

Ha! Thank you, Rick. Yeah the 61 is a longer project, of course. Wish I could be cruising it this summer but as you know parts don’t come cheap. The 77 was my original dream ride and I just had to be cruising something my wallet could allow, didn’t want to wait another summer. I think I might have a problem lol.

Re: Nic Sanford’s 77 Project II
Well fellas, I finally got the 77 out of storage for the season and got my work cut out for me. I figured I’d start by installing my new vinyl top and I’m curious. Can anybody help guide me on removing the trim around the windows? I suspect there may be some fasteners behind the B pillar, but can’t be sure. As soon as those are off I can work a few small rust spots, then prep the body for primer. Man I miss this place can’t wait to catch up!

There are screws UNDER the weatherstripping, which may or may not be glued to the stainless trim holding the weatherstripping to the trim. The vinyl top is glued under the stainless trim.
Carefully pull one end of a piece or weatherstripping away and you will see.

Thank you, Dan. Long time no talk to by the way! Hope you and your fam are well. For the side window trim, do you know of those pieces are also held in by fasteners? Appreciate you man.

If you’re talking about drip rails, I think they are also secured by CS screws UNDER the trim rails that hold the weather stripping.
Also, I think there is a metric fukton of black sealing dope for water resistance. Without it, water would just run along the vinyl top and go under everything.
You will see when you remove the first one.

Re: Nic Sanford’s 77 Project II
You weren’t kidding Dan. That took far longer than I wanted it to but the other side should be easier. Thanks for the heads up, I’m a little bit closer to getting this new vinyl done, fingers crossed this weekend…
