Added to the fleet - not a Lincoln, but a cousin

Post by JonW »

I've always thought the '69 and '70 Marauders were cool cars. They were a Marquis coupe with 3" chopped from the wheelbase and 5" from overall length compared to the sedan. I love the front-end treatment on them. I've only seen one in person and they don't come up for sale very often. So when this eBay auction came up, I bid and won.

This is a '69 with 65K miles, 429, factory air, and it's RED. There's some rust in the quarters but otherwise seems straight. I'm excited about getting it home and seeing it in person. The man that built my Hemi Lincoln is going to take it over, but it will likely be late 2019 before it's finished.

Congratulations Jon! I love these cars and have often fantasized about buying one, but you're right, they don't come up for sale often and when they do they're not in the best condition. Does yours have bucket seats? How 'bout some interior pics?

I wish it had bucket seats, but no it doesn't. I may try to score some power bucket seats of some kind, but I'm sure finding a console won't be easy. I may just leave the bench in it. I haven't had a chance to sit in the car yet, and have lots of time to make that decision.

It looks real nice, but would be great to see buckets and a console!

What a great find! I have always loved these, and they are so seldom seen. If memory serves, were these equipped with rear fender skirts as standard equipment? I still have the plastic 1969 Mercury Marauder toy cars from when Post Cereals put them into the cereal boxes in 1969 as premiums.

The X100 trim option had those features. Marauder X-100 offered a choice of Twin Comfort Lounge seats, Bench Seat or Bucket Seats with a floor console housing a U-shaped automatic transmission shift handle. The X-100 also featured Kelsey-Hayes road wheels along with rear fender skirts. Fender skirt may have been optional for the other Marauders.

While the wheelbase is the same as a Marquis of that year, the overall length is 10" shorter. Technically Grand Marquis wasn't available until 1975.

The wheelbase of a1969 Marquis is 124". The Marauder has a 121" wheelbase.

Overall length of a 1969 Marquis is 224.3". Overall length of the Marauder is 219.1".

This is an X-100, and the fender skirts are in the trunk. After the rust repair, I don't plan to re-install them. I like the look without them much better.

I stand corrected. The 69 Mercury sales brochure.
