57 Premier

Post by mikes57 »

Hello,
Here is my 57 that I'm trying to get back on the road.
Things that have been done so far:
Gas tank removed, cleaned and sealed, new fuel line almost complete.
New brake lines and wheel cylinders almost done.
New master cylinder
This car has had a carb fire so it did run at one time have not got it running yet does any one know of a good carb rebuilder on the west coast? there is a company down in so cal that has a 2404s on ebay but 800$ is a little pricey.
The wife wants to drive her after she's up and running. She's 5'2" wood blocks on the pedals or on her feet?? :D

What part of Washington are you in? There's a excellent rebuilder in Spokane, Nowlan's Carb & Ignition. I've used him serval times with great results.

Hello,

So the lincoln is running. new fuel lines rebuilt carb and fuel pump. The issue now is brakes. Rebuilt Treadle Vac new brake lines including soft lines, new wheel cylinders, new spring kits and turned drums. I have bench bled master. Have pedal when car is not running , but when running pedal goes to the floor. What am I missing? Leak in vacuum tank? Any input would be helpful.

Thanks, Mike.

Usually a brake pedal that goes to the floor is not due to the power assistance. That condition would be from hydrauilics or adjustment.
In no order ...
Brake shoe to drum clearance is excessive
Brake shoe not correctly fastened to backing plate
Master cylinder has an internal leak
The system has an external leak
Pedal push rod length is too short
Brake fluid too low and there is air in the system

I was just recently willed a 57 Lincoln premiere, it has sat for over 50 years and the gas tank is done for. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find a new gas tank fairly priced??

Suppliers, Vendors, Feedback, & Part Cross Reference

You can probably find other sources on the internets in general.

I don't think you can put "classic Lincoln parts" and "fairly priced" in the same sentence. These are 2 opposites that just don't attract!

If it will still hold fuel you can get it repaired. Take it to a radiator shop and they should be able to split the the tank, weld any holes, and coat the inside of the tank. The real issue in 2023 is finding a good radiator shop since those are becoming a thing of the past.

If you need a new tank and one can not be sourced you will have to either fabricate one or or use something like an aluminum boat tank. I have gone the boat tank route before on LS swapped vehicles in the early 2000s back before you could easily buy all the swap tanks and inline high pressure fuel pumps. The boat tank route can be extremely easy since you can buy them in any shape or size but you need to have the tools to fabricate mounting brackets and TIG aluminum.

What is the end goal for your car? Factory resto, resto mod, driver?

You might check with Lincoln Mercury Old Parts, Lincoln Land or Mark II Enterprises. One of those is bound to have what you are looking for or will know where to get one.
