63 rear window- zipped or unzipped?

Anything that pertains only to a convertible goes here. Such as: Top material, pads, mechanism, hydraulic pumps, switch and relay mechanisms, latches, etc.

63 rear window- zipped or unzipped?

Post by cadtbird »

My car, which I have been restoring for what seems like forever, now has a new top. I haven't put it down yet, as it looks so nice. My question is, do I unzip the rear window first, or just leave it zipped? The owner's manual says to unzip it, but I see many more owners leave it zipped. I am open to opinions. Thanks!

As no one else has piped up, I will give my opinion. I have also seen the part of the manual saying to unzip it, and it gives no reason why. What I do know, is it should always be zipped up, and the top erected when the car is in storage, or they can shrink. Especially with a new top, it needs to be kept snug as it relaxes into position.
A friend, (67 Galaxy) had a top shrink so much, it took 2 men to re attach it to the header, every time he put it back up.
