Spam email from LCOC member

Post by autostick »

I just got a spam type email advertising car parts with oversized attachments. It is signed as follows: L.C.O.C Member.
PayPal accepted CHECK OUT MY STORE ON E-BAY:
It has the senders name and phone number. This same guy has posted ads on this site with 20 total posts. I hope LCOC members don't send each other unsolicited ads, and I hope LCOC is not selling or giving the member email list to vendors. I really hope he did not get the email addresses by way of this site! If this is a one time abberation, my apologies. If it is recurrent it will cause me to terminate my membership. Just a thought and cheers.

It's a little annoying, but hopefully, a reply that you are not interested will be enough. Otherwise, make 66-67 roof rail weatherstrip for convertibles!

Okay guys, thanks for placing this "spam" in perspective. I am getting protective of my email address since it is is a PITA to change it. In this case we could ask him where he got the addresses; his username on this forum is 911dz9r. So far I have managed to keep automotive spam to a minimum, but on the other front, the Royal Family of Nigeria needs my help in a Western Union wire transfer...

If you ask him to stop, keep a copy of the email. If he doesn't, you can file a complaint with the FTC for unwanted spam. This goes for telemaketing calls and unwanted faxes.

Thanks Stu. I must tell you my unwanted fax story. Back in the 1990's I used to get spammed by a toner supplier, he was relentless, sending mail every day. I answered several asking him to stop, and believe it or not, he replied, promising to take me off of all future mailings. Turns out he lied, as the daily toner supply emails kept coming and coming. So I took a copy of his promise to stop spamming, and printed it, large white letters on a solid black background. I then faxed his own black background message back to his fax order line. I had a computer fax so I sent it every 30 minutes day and night for five days consecutive. Literally a stack of fax back black.

I guess I used up some toner on his fax machine, cuz he had a guy who claimed to be an attorney call my supervisor about cease and desist. We all had a good laugh at this end, and after that, the spam mail mysteriously stopped.

Isn't the guy sending out the emails an LCOC member? That's how I took the email when I got it and hence the reason I posted it here for everyone. I figured he just got my email address from the LCOC member directory.

I get spam email all the time for products I would NEVER buy. I'm not going to complain that someone making quality weatherstripping for 60s Lincolns sent a single email to me. Now if I get 100 more, I'll complain.

That's kind of what I thought too. It would be a different story if he were trying to sell Viagra or something similar.

He's a legit maker of weatherstripping. We all complain about the junk that the USs make. Maybe someday we'll have something good.
