Shrinking JPG file sizes can easily be done by certain picture graphic programs by changing the quality settings. This relates to compression and has nothing to pixel resolution. Lower quality or higher compression makes the same pixel-size picture smaller in file size.

Please note word emphasis.

Bump. I need people to try to post pics bigger than 1024x1024 to see if the new settings are working.

Please try to post a pic in this thread that is 1500x1000 or 1000x1500 or 2500x2500. The last should not be allowed. The others should be OK.

Also be aware of your filesize, but files up to 48MB are allowed.

At original size,

the board gives the following error when posting from an iPhone:

(640x1136)

Resized to 2496x1872, the image fails with the same invalid message.

Resized to 2048x1536, it uploads fine as such:

Also, when hitting the back button (OSX 10.8.3, Safari Version 6.0.3 (8536.28.10)), the board trips this error after posting:

I updated the policy to 6144x4096. According to my upload admin page, it will accept files up to 48MiB for pictures, PDFs, etc.

I know it's been four years since your post, but did you get it to work?

I just tried to upload a pic that was 4841 x 3337 and 8.2 MB and got this message: The attachment’s file size is too large, the maximum upload size is 2 MB.
Please note this is set in php.ini and cannot be overridden.

Yeah. I have to figure out how to get around the 2MB file size limitation. It's a php thing, not technically a forum thing.
