Back in 2007, I upgraded the forum to phpbb 3.0.X from version 2.0.X. When I did this, I changed the subfolder name used on the server from thelincolnforum.net/phpbb to thelincolnforum.phpbb3 as part of the migration/upgrade process. This broke any hard links in old posts since the phpbb folder was no longer there.
If anyone uses the search function (yes, it does happen), then those links would be dead and most users would not know why and would likely post yet another thread about something likely already discussed.
This problem has been fixed. Using word censoring, I put in a filter that will change the displayed link on the fly to the correct phpbb3 folder allowing the links to work.
Even farther back (pre-2004), the forum was using Ultimate BB which used thelincolnforum.net/ultimatebb/cgi-bin[/i] in the path. Those links are dead. If you ever come across a link like that, know that the thread it links to still exists in phpbb3 just with a completely different path. You'll just have to search to find it. If you can read the link (use the quote button if it is truncated in the posting for the full text), look for the topic ID # and substitute it in the path for typical phpbb3 threads. It might just work.

Re: Old Forum Links fixed
If you come across a thread with a link that looks like this:
thelincolnforum.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=000872
This would be a pre-2004 link. Simply copy the forum number (&f=XXX) and the topic number (&t=XXXXXX) into the current link form.
Here's an example:

Example with original text: http://www.thelincolnforum.net/cgi-bin/ ... 1&t=000872
I also put in some word replacement to try to fix this on the fly for people.

Re: Old Forum Links fixed
Hi Dan
Thanks for letting us know that the search feature now works into the older posts. Just redid a search I done early last month and it yielded a wealth old treads and posts.
Cheers Phil
