Driver’s side rear quarter window

Post by jon schapiro »

The driver side rear window closed halfway up and stopped. I can hear the motor running in both directions but the window does not move. I was able to pull the window closed and the motor still runs in both directions but no window movement.

I don’t believe I have ever taken the rear quarter panel off before and was wondering what has to be done. Hopefully rear seat does not have to be removed. How involved is it to get access to the motor and window mechanism?

Pretty sure the seat has to come out to get the inner trim panel removed

As for the cause, your motor is just fine. It's the gear drive in the motor head that failed. Not sure of the design of a quarter-window motor; but if it's the same as a regular window motor, then you need one of those patented Auveco gears to fix it.

Ah, okay then! Jon, you need one of those patented Auveco gears, and a 3-oz. tube of PTFE grease, to fix the problem in your motor.

You could if you want just get replacement nylon bushings at the local parts store to replace the ground-up ones in your stock gear; that would be the cheapest fix. But the Auveco gears, though they cost a bit more than bushings, are more permanent and worth the extra cost...and still cheaper than a replacement motor you don't need, which may not even come equipped with a gear, which is the root cause of your problem.
