66 motors will not work in a 65 as is. 65 motors are 1 year only (possible for 64) They may be able to be reconfigured. John Cashman will know for sure.

Window motors are as follows:61-62 the same.63-64 the same. 65 is 1 year only. 66-69 (& up to 79) is the same. 65 motors are the worst ever made, not only do they have an engineering defect, they are weak. I will never install a 65 window motor! The fix for a 65 is to RETROFIT it to the 63-64 motor. These were bulletproof, won't jam and are fast. They are the last of the motor being separate from the gear head. You can put the motor and gear head on your 65 regulator, but it is easier to change the whole assembly. I keep the regulators on my service truck wound and ready to go(out of a 64) the 63 regulator was completely different, motor & gear the same. 65 was a transitional year on the window motors and they were moving toward the reverse polarity motor used 66 &up( cheap motor to make but requires a more complex window switch to reverse polarity.) Call me to discuss further...(813)390-1950.

Big65 - First, welcome!

I was in the same spot as you when I first got my '65. 2 out of 4 windows didn't work. New motors are spendy!

John Cashman is the resident expert, and his advice is no doubt the best option. But if you are feeling up to the task, you may also want to review this thread which outlines how to diagnose window issues in the '65s. Much applies to other years, but as John states, 65s are in a class all their own.

A good place to start:
